No you'll need an Apple Powerbook G4 logic board, will probably go for about £1-200 on ebay (which is pretty much the only place to get them, unless you go to Apple then it will cost around £4-500)

Do you know the rest of the machines specs?

If it's 1/2 years old it will be a MacBook Pro, Powerbooks were discontinued in I think June 2006.

If it's a Powerbook, keep your eyes on these

If it's a MacBook Pro, you'll need to find out if it's a Core Duo or a Core 2 Duo. You should be able to find this out by taking the battery off and looking at the specs inside there. You're looking at around £200-300 for a Core Duo logic board if you can find one. If you go to Apple will be about £5-600 I would imagine. Nick (nc7r) might be able to help you out with prices and stuff, infact if you post the serial number in here, he can check the spec for you :)

Those are all Core Duos, if it's a Core 2 Duo you'll need a different logic board because the ports and such are all different, was a minor revision but they changed the whole case.

Hope this has helped.
