I just got a puncture on my first ride on a new tube! I'm fed up of punctures and wondered if putting duct tape or something simmiler on the inside of the tires would help - at least a tiny bit??

Laurence.

What tyre? - Maxxis front and rear
What rim? - standard onza t-pro 07 20/19"
What rim tape? - Dosent say, just standard black rubber stuff.
Spokes too long and stick out? - No
You sure theres not a thorn or anything in your tyre? - No, It hasn't happened before on the old tube though. I wanted to use duct tape or something slimier to get "puncture resistant tires" or at least give my tubes a little "defense" against the thorns.

Cant right now. Will later though.

I'm not 100% everyone is getting me? I'm wanting to put duct tape in my tyres because i want to get less punctures. I've had so many recently and I'm just fed up of them!

So my question is, will putting duct tape (or something similar) in my tires actually help me or not?

Laurence.

I don't think it will much, if it's able to get thorugh the pretty thick rubber of the tyres a bit of duck tape won't be much use. Worth a try i suppose, if you can live with all that extra weight :P

Nothing will stop thorns I've found, over the years I've tried layering extra old tubes over the new one, I even bought some 2mm thick thorn proof tubes once for my BMX, still got punctures.

Thats an old trick, get an old inner tube, cut it open an line your tyre with it, really good for stoppin pinch flats!

Might help a bit but its not very strong that way, its strength is how sticky it is.
Remember my old rockhopper I could guarantee at least 1 puncture a day no matter how small the things I rode, turned out to be a problem with the rims as once I switched them the problem went away!

Use a motorbike tube, wrapped with an old dh tube, and run harder pressures, i never get punctures, touch wood.

I used that goo once upon a time, didn't get a puncture for 18 months... well, I did, I got many but i justed needed to pump more air in, never needed to replace the tube.

OR

Get a tyre with a good sidewall.
I run a bontrager innertube, which I'd consider as an average innertube, and I use a maxxis holy roller, and 25psi.

I haven't had a pinch puncture since I put this tyre on.

if its thorns thats giving you the trouble, then the advice thats been given is good, if its pinch punctures, be smoother.
