Mini's On The Trials Forum

Nice to see some posts in here :) Mini is looking good tom!

Mine failed it's MOT today, not too bad though, headlamp aim, emissions (running a bit rich), track rod end (bit odd as i replaced them not that long ago), and reverse light not working but then i pointed out it is operated by a switch to them :P

With that not being much work at all really i was thinking of buying a new head to put on my 998, ideally something to just bolt on until i can afford a 1275, been offered a ported 12g202 and a more expensive 12g295. Any experiences?

Also not fixed that womans starter motor problems cause i've been trying to avoid going over and getting stressed cause i can't fix it :P

All nice easy fixes then, nice one :).

Cheers, needs a bit more TLC but were getting there.

How much could I get for 4 10" Wellers with decent Falken tyres? Also have another 10" Weller as a spare, maybe even 2 of them! Not sure. 2 of the ones with tyres and 10x6, other 2 and 10x5, Staggered fitment yo! ;)

Also have 4 12" Wellers, what are they worth?

I like Wellers...

If its only the writing then I don't mind so long as everything else matches up, I'll most likely take the wheels, and will take the seats depending on how much money I come out with at the other end of this weekend. Will let you know.

Seats may be spoken for dude, there's a chap on route for them now..

Ok no worries then, since driving a ferrari 599 the other day i for some reason have a big urge for more power :P I'd love a 1275 but can't afford one atm. Any ideas for anything to put on my 998 for the time being? It's pretty standard atm with just basically a stage one kit. I'm not right clued up on heads but i cba to pocket the block for a 940 and 595s seem jolly expensive.

A 1275 would most likely be cheaper than getting any real power increase from the 998 unfortunately.

Yeh i thought it would be the case, was just checking if there was something i had overlooked. 1275 prices atm are ridonculous though.

Open to offers.

Nearly New K&N (For a HS4)

HS4 on alloy inlet (non waxstat recently rebuilt)

Another HS4 (Waxstat)

Freeflow Manifold

Stainless Bumper (few small marks but generally good)

Grille & Surround (surround good, grill backing a bit grotty but slats good)

Front Subframe (was blasted and painted a few years ago, pretty good nick just covered in waxoil)

Couple of ballast coils (one used one brand new)

Couple of airboxes

998 Dizzy (59d)

Ive also got a 1275 head. Not sure on the casting but its from a MG Metro engine. It needs new guides or at least guide seals.

You'd be better off with a t2 to be honest dude, mirage manifolds would prevent you from bulkhead cutting, you'd need headwork an atleast a 4pin diff, aswell as the carb, fuel pump, extra fuel lines an fuel reg. You'd probably do it for under a grand an get you around 80bhp.

You'd be very limited to boost thou, anymore then 8-9 psi an I'd say you'd be in gearbox wrecking territory.

Be cheaper to buy a 1275, big valve head an hot cam I'd say. Probably be better reliability an economy too...

Sorry tom but i don't think i'll be taking the wellers off you, I've decided now i've got some decent income i'm gunna save and get some smaller brakes and do it properly. It gives me more of a choice and i am not mucking about with spacers etc. I also get a choice of wheels too. I'm thinking 10x6 mambas, 10x6 minilites or reverse rims as wide as possible. What's peoples opinions on tyre choices? I fancy yokos, just not sure which, it worth going for a032rs over a008s?

Also, i think my front cones are pretty worn, it advisable to shave a bit off the bump stops cause i'm fairly sure it is bumping around on them atm and they are rather large.

That belongs to a chap I used to work with. They're reverse cooper S wheels banded out to 7" wide by James P off Retro Rides. I like them a lot, and they fit over his 8.4" brakes.

As for tyres, I'd personally go for a008's unless you're going to spend more time on track than off. They ware out stupidly fast and don't really deal with standing water. If it's your only car then definitely go for 008s, if it's a second car that'll only see the odd weekend blast and track day then it just depends how healthy your bank balance is feeling.
