Downtube Design

I just found a pic of my old Heavy Tools and it made me wonder about the design of modern trials frames, how come nobody uses a teardrop downtube on their frames? I remember me and a friend who rode one absolutely hammered the downtubes on ours on failed moves and they held up to so much abuse, it just seemed like a really strong design.

Is it a problem in the costing or would it have to be pretty beefy increasing the weight?? I'm pretty sure it wasn't overly heavy (2.2kg which considering the size of the frame I'd say is pretty reasonable).

Most downtubes tend to get wider on their underside as you get nearer the head tube to get as much contact area as possible for more strength and stiffness, so I guess to go from being teardrop in a meaningful/useful way to big and wide at the top end of it might be tricky and/or expensive to do?
