new fourplay team or skye pro?

i brought the skye pro framekit and built mine to my own spec because there are parts on the stock skye pro that i would have changed, but didnt cost a lot more to do that either. (the avid brakes are weird, not enough power and they loose all power whenthe levers are near horizontal angles and upside down which is what i found out myself, but i know of some riders who use them on the front but i dont really know why :S the lever blades feel nice but thats about it. also once on a ride my avid lost all power randomly and there wasnt an explanation for it) but the stock fourplay team has hope brakes which are a lot more powerful and reliable.

bearing in mind the skye pro rides lovely, and has bolt-through axles which make it feel a lot more solid and stiff, if your over 5.10 foot it'll feel a bit "cramped" but im 5.7 which is the only reason i got a skye and not a fourplay or an arcade.

with regards to the fourplay?... for me, they feel a bit "long" which is probably ONLY to do with my height but unless i get a bit taller i wont know for sure. that doesnt make them bad bikes! just my opinion :)

EDIT: you could change the brakes on the skye pro, its just buying a complete bike then paying more to change parts is annoying. also the bars are a bit weird... again thats probably my view.

others will have their says so im just putting my views across so hope that helps a bit :)

That is one of the most deep misteries in the bike industry. Riding brakeless is more safe than riding with Avid hidraulics.

I'm getting a new bike around Xmas time but not sure which to get. I want either the inspired Skye pro or the newer inspired fourplay team. Which one should I go for?

It really depends on your height, but if you want to go more streety go for the Skye, if you want more trials/street riding go for the fourplay.

Skye has so homeless poor cur spec, I wouldn't even touch this bike. Avid cannot into brakes. Freewheels(especially this cheap one) cannot into reliability, riding and dangerous for your health.

So If I was you I'll pick fourplay. They (4play and skye) has not so much difference in reliability.

But if you 100% want sky or/and not a giant do like JJ Leigh - build skye with custom good spec.

And for some reasons my vote is for Skye, looks great, and has a really nice and strong hanger (I ride multispeed).

But at the same time Skye is unrideable for me with skye forks, due to short steerer tube, I need at least 235mm, Inspired Arcade bars and The Great Tower of Stackers especially with shorter reach, that skye has.

I think you'll find both bikes superb, if you happen to get the Sky you can easily upgrade the brakes etc at a later date. I've owned my fourplay pro for two years now and I upgraded the brakes and wheel set to hope now the bike is kin awesome. Good luck with choosing.

I'm not sure if the Skye Pro uses the same freewheel as the latest Fourplay Pro and Console bikes, but if they do then they seem to be really good. The springs feel a bit beefier than pretty much any other freewheel I've felt and consequently the engagement feels really crisp/positive. Even the older Inspired 16t freewheels on the Elements/Pro level bikes worked well.

But at the same time Skye is unrideable for me with skye forks,

Have you ever ridden a Skye? I have zero interest in what you 'think' you need, I just want to know if you've ridden a Skye 'with Skye forks'.

This freewheels are chineese shit anyway. On top level frameset they've put cheap poor parts, this is freakin funny. Give it ti me and I'll destroy it in less than a 6 months.

Yes I've ridden skye and even had an idea to buy it in 2013 but it feels like bike for kids or dwarfs with this ultra-short steerer tube(I don't get it, what an idiot decided to cut steerer tube on complete bikes? This is a reason I never buy a complete from Inspired). Even the fact that BB is +10 doesn't fix this. I don't want to ride anything lower than uncut 235mm steerer tube and 70x35 stem with Arcade bars (that feels ~10mm higher than TT HR). Skye with cut steerer tube feels crazy lower and with this Inspired 9x9deg. low bars and with this hope 70x25 low stem make me feel like a giant that stole a kid's bike.

I don't want to say that skye has bad geo, geo is good, but I can ride it only with 235mm steerer tube + 70x35 + Arcade bars.

Mark, you cannot into maths, do you?

Fourplay 2013: 665mm reach

Skye mk1: 655mm reach

+ CUT STEERER FEKKIN TUUUUBBBBE (I use 40mm of stackers, Skye only 15mm!)

70x35 stem is 8mm lower than hope 70x25

Inspired bars mk1 (9x9 deg 88 total rise) are 15mm lower than TT HR and ~ 24mm lower than Arcade bars.

Now My setup is 90x35 + Arcade + 40mm spacers and this is even more higher

Total difference is:

25mm on spacers + 24mm on stems (70x25 vs 90x35) + ~24mm bars difference (if it has 10x10 new TT HR like bars it would be not 24 but only ~10mm) and maybe something on reach, but there are no info about stack and height of the frame + BB height.

So 49-63mm that are freaking 4.9-6.3cm difference (considering Skye has lower BB) CAN YOU IMAGINE WITH YOUR BRAIN THAT THIS IS CRAZY DIFFERENCE?

I personally can feel 2-3mm change in bars height.

Dicta freewheels are "cheap shit". The freewheel on the Inspireds aren't "cheap shit".

Also, way to answer a yes/no question with a load of shit that I haven't read due to my previous statement about having zero interest in what you think you "need". Your opinions/"facts" that you try and spout change on a daily basis so why would I bother reading whatever bullshit you're trying to use to justify whatever you happen to think is absolute 100% best today? You're still chatting massively lengthy shit about something that's a personal opinion that you hold which isn't representative of the vast majority of people so why would I/anyone else give a f**k?

Fully aware that English isn't your first language but still, lol at "Mark, you cannot into maths, do you?"

Double dipping this to this topic and another if it does not delete. Sorry, minor problem as a new guy on a new site and sorting out some post details.

I too had a lot of questions about Inspired 24's.

Wish I had seen this topic or knew where more like it lived. I was undecided between a new FourPlay Pro or the Skye Pro.

Could not find any real info describing details about the machines except for the Inspired site tech specs.

I ordered a Skye Pro yesterday. None exist locally so it is a crap shot with no test ride..

The post here about the size of the bike vs the rider is my only real concern. I'm 5'10", so I guess we'll see about fit when it arrives.

Skill wise I will never use the bike to it's designed potential. As an old guy, I am more interested in using for keeping up better balance and simpler low to the ground stuff, mostly on dirt, so I don't get too busted up.

If anyone has a true concern it will be too small for me, please advise and maybe I could have them change the order for the Fourplay Pro.

I'm 5'10", and I don't have any problem riding a streety 24. Just get the right bars and stem to make you comfortable and you'll be reyt

The simple fact is that any rider at any height is going to be cool on any of the inspired range, The other fact is that inspired don't really have a "crap" bike even the entry level frames are just an older model. Obviously the components are different but if you was a starter then it'd be cool.

Perhaps it's not always best going into a sport and trying to buy the best of the best right away.

Cool is the least of it for me, no plans to be riding with others. Granted it is a cool bike, but there is more to it than cool.

As for the cost, I'm not one that gets bored and has to have new each year. I'd rather buy good stuff up front if not cost prohibitive and ride it until it's done. Also, cost is a bit relative, I'm older, been married for 30 years and have 3 grandkids. This bike is simply one more way to stay healthy and have fun. I know my limits and the bike is certainly better than I am, so I expect minimal if any frame concerns.

Consider too, it may be a dated machine when it happens, but I'm guessing the wild child granddaughter will get it at some point and complete the thrashing.

I attached a photo of one bike we ride with our oldest grandaughter. Yes we ride technical singletrack with her on the tag along. This day though was a 35 mile ride, more epic style than singletrack. Hope to ride singles with her also soon, and then maybe she will start riding the tricked out Yamaha PW50 we built. If not her, it will be her younger sister, the wild child.

BTW, if you look at the photo, on the opposite shore above Sofia's helmet you can see the 12 foot alligator sunning himself.

Not bagging on you, just expressing that there was more to this than it appears.

I think you might have misinterpreted what Luke meant by "if you were a starter then it'd be cool" - I think he just meant that you wouldn't have anything to worry about or need to change on the bike as the frame/forks are good on all the bikes, and the parts specced on them tend to be really durable too. It wasn't really anything to do with looks or whatever.

If so I appologize.

Yes I intepreted the wording to mean cool = poser, after his last remark about not buying a higher end machine. If he meant cool = ok, then truly my bad.

Either way I am fine with it. Riding should be about having fun, pushing limits to the edge of your comfort zone and hopefully getting better with each ride.

I did give the local shop a call and asked to see about changing the order to a Fourplay Pro after finding a small note on the Insprired website that the Fourplay is better than the Skye for taller riders. Also, it mentioned the Fourplay as a more all around machine for different types of riding. Excited to get this and start riding.

Wow I can't believe this is still on here.

Actually, it made me more aware of some possible concerns I was not easily finding good info on.

Somehow I found this in a spot on the Inspired website. The comments from Inspired about natural trials and being a better fit for a taller rider had me swap the order from a Skye Pro to a Fourplay Pro.

"Beginners to advanced riders will love the updated geometry and design of this bike. The shorter wheelbase (than the previous Fourplay) gives the bike better handling and is more manoeuvrable in nearly all situations. No matter if you want to do flips or just to ride natural trials, the Fourplay Pro fits every riding style. It has a longer wheelbase and reach than the Inspired Skye for instance which allows taller riders to feel comfortable on the bike."
