Seller Age Limit

I think age is just a number, so yes, child sellers can be reliable. It completely relies on the person. The thing is, that would mean there would need to be some kind of personality test to see if you are worthy of the for sale section, but ain't nobody got time for that.

No Jack Dickinson the disputes section would be approximately 85% less full. This is just like when one kid kills someone a week after buying Grand Theft Auto and people want to ban the game, so no I don't think it's needed.

Yes, in my example Jack Dickinson is a murderer and I am aware that messing around in a bike deal is drastically different to the act of killing.

I was in favour of an age limit, but it'd be mega hard to police and enforce. How are sales policed on other forums? What are the conditions? Surely being able to spell, not being lazy and have basic grammar skill must be some of the pre requisites. It'd be interesting to hear people's ideas

I did post a long while ago in the forum suggestions section about moderators approving for sale topics before they appear on the forum for viewing.

I also think pictures with the persons user name and the date should be used on every item for sale. That stops the it's mint but it's not now because the picture is 6 months old scenario.

How is the forum to verify age anyway? What stops anyone from making an account saying they are 25 when they are actually 14 (and a d*ckhead)?

Realistically, you can normally tell if someone is serious about what they are selling my the time they take on the for sale post and their communication.

'Got a sik onza rip 4 sale, rly good condition few scratches call me' for example, isn't likely to be a trustworthy seller.

If you're at all skeptical about a sale- simply don't buy it. I don't think narrowing the amount of people who are allowed to sell will help the situation, and would very likely dramatically reduce the volume of people on this forum whilst possibly not even having an effect on the number of successful sales at all.

Just need to use the ban hammer in the for sale section more often. It's easy for someone to say sorry in the disputes thread and just do it again.

Don't have to ban them forever. A year or two to learn a lesson.

I don't think it would be good for the forum to have an age limit.

How about minimum requirements for adverts like they do on other forums.

Clear up to date photos showing condition etc. (sign in photo showing recent date and members name).

Detailed description

Price

If they aren't in the posting it gets pulled.

Helps both the buyer know what they are getting and the seller as it's so much easier to sell things from a decent advert.

I like the sound of that, pic with members name and date especially. I wonder if Tom or Danny could set it so that when you post something in the For Sale forum you get a reminder with the above points then no one can make any excuses that they didn't know or forgot, I could add an announcement but you can't guarantee everyone will read it.

If someone could make a decent how to guide showing how and where to upload photos and add them to a post (via a PC and mobile phone) I could sticky it. Would do it myself but hosting sites are blocked at work so I can't get any screen shots or anything.

It shouldn't be an excuse that someone can't get pictures of an item (says the guy who's advertised bits without a picture!), everyone will have access to either a digital camera or mobile somehow and if they aren't willing to put the effort in to getting a picture then they're probably not going to be that arsed about ripping someone off.

Im only 15 and ive never had a problem on here selling stuff. I think you are correct in saying that some people are still very childish and dont seem to understand the correct procedure on how to see stuff , ie, pictures, good description , price to post . But i feel that is only a small percentage of the users on here, who just havent matured enough yet. I woundnt want to get banned from selling parts due to other people off my age not being as grown up as i am.

How about this then.

Sellers under the age of 13 have to use their parents to sell...

Sellers 13-16 can sell items that are under £100, until they do 3 sales and the buyers of those 3 sales found them trouble-free.

Sellers 18+ no restrictions but need to prove they're old enough.

And well written adverts with pictures must be included for all of the above.

... and first an admin needs to take a look at the ad?

So there will be good for sale threads 100%

-snip-

could you raise the max image size please?

2 meg is just too small, and it is hard to embed from Google drive

Anyone under the age of 16 IMO. When a transaction is being done. If the seller is under 16, the buyer must be given, a landline phone number(If applicable), parents names and mobile numbers of parents and a full address and postcode.

As a seller I would always reassure buyers buy proving MY full address and mobile number.

It's always difficult on forums and with second hand items being sold. However, I'm on a couple of other forums and how it works on there is:

ANY for sale or wanted post has to be approved by a moderator/admin
ALL topics have to be posted with recent, high quality pictures (If selling)
ALL topics have to specify location of the item (I.E - Oxford, Birmingham etc)
ALL topics have to have a price for each item.

Another thing I would suggest, is that all discussion of buying or selling the item has to be done in the topic and PM's should only be used at the end to provide address and phone numbers (I can understand people being uncomfortable about publicly posting there address and phone number for everyone to see.

I know this would require alot more Moderation, in which case, make another 2-3 moderators, people who are really active on the forum and post alot.

Problem solved IMO.

I really don't understand why we're discriminating people because of their age, I've bought parts off people under the age of 16 plenty of times and never really had any trouble. It's easy to tell a difference between a good and a bad advert on the forum, and it tends to reflect on how they are as a person, If they've said, "propa good monty 4 seal bought off ma mate but dnt lyk it, 300£ ono. add ma phone for picz" then they seem like the type of people to mess you about.

I think from just looking at the sellers reputation and taking a look through a few of their posts you can get a good idea if the person seems decent.
