TFTD2 - Curborough again?

Strike while the iron is hot they say!

So, I think it's safe to say yesterday was a success, with plenty of brake pads and tyres being worn out and lots of precious fossil fuels being used up, so who's up for another one in say, September?

General feedback / mulling over of stuff:

I felt the morning lacked a little bit of something, maybe cos we didn't really know each other or because of the start point being so far out the way, but either way the afternoon seemed better overall and running with the mid-way start point all day might be a good shout.

People weren't as keen to spank it round all day (apart from handbrake lead foot Dan!) as I thought, so the necessity to do groups maybe isn't there. If the queue gets too long it kinda self regulates, and people will just peel off rather than sitting there.

Chatting with Luke and Robin, we reckon a couple more cars would be fine, maybe 12-14.

We could maybe try a slightly different layout or a triple lapper to add variation instead of moving the start point? I know Jardo hates the figure of 8 but I think I've worked out a way to do it more 'safely' and then it would at least give people a chance to learn to turn left as well as right, haha. (Will do a doodle to explain later)

Thoughts on all of the above?

I'm happy to do the organisational side of things again - I'm going to give the landowner a call today to check he got the keys and payment ok so hopefully he'll be happy to have us back!

Who's up for TFTD2 then?

Definitely up for Curby again!

More cars would be fine I reckon, I got plenty of track time.

The morning didn't "lack" as such, but I definitely enjoyed the afternoon more as I got more confidence. Personally, I'm not a fan of going out in groups, I found in more fun to just nip on track whenever I got the urge - I think with that number of cars there would never be a case of "I didn't get enough track time because X was hogging it..."

Having the start point at the gate was much better, the other start point seems like wasted effort to me.

The timing definitely improved things, gave me something to work towards and added to the fun.

Feedback from me: great first time on track, well worth the money!

Probably not this time round* but next time if the supermoto is road legal what are the chances of a mix and match? :)

*due to imminent small pink bag of poo and sick arrival!

Hopefully will have a car by the next one, but as I don't have a car or a licence yet I guess I can't reserve a space... :P

Is there any real reason for no bikes though if it's going to be an open pit type affair? If there's only one vehicle on track at once I can't see why it need be limited to cars?

EDIT: Btw if bikes are allowed then I fully intend to take advantage of the promise Ed made to me back in 2010 that I could have a go on the CCM. :P

You're very welcome to :)

Would Cadwell or Blyton be too expensive for the day?

No prizes for guessing where you live :P

Curborough is a better location and I think it's better for 'normal' cars (less strenuous), but it can't harm to find out. Cadwell will be loads (at least £5k I reckon), Blyton would be cheaper than that but still a lot more than Curborough - I'll find out.

Definitely in of course. Would be interesting to see what the other layout looks like. Can we go around it backwards? (not in reverse lol)

At least it would make your car right wheel drive ;)

I'm not sure about backwards - I think you could but it seems laid out so the 'top' (nearest the entrance to the venue) hairpin is a right hander mainly.

Doodle time...

100% up for it second time round. Can't really use the excuse of my car not being finsihed this time :P

Can it be any earlier? Weather is a bit hit and miss in September!

Could be - but dates are tricky during the sprint season. Weather is hit and miss all year, lol.

Cheers Dan - had a thought - either way you could potentially be cutting through the middle of the track at fairly substantial speed. Personally I would like to try it but not sure others feel. Gotta crack on with other stuff now but will doodle later!

Llandow is supposed to be quite a good track that's not too harsh?

I don't mind doing Curby again, but if people are looking at "proper" tracks, Llandow is on my list already :)

Llandow isn't a proper track, and it's miles from the arse end of nowhere :P Also kills front left hand tyres.

Thought you might. I vote Oulton in that case :P

Realistically Curborough is the best option IMO - we can get it all to ourselves for a very reasonable cost, it's in the midlands, and for those who haven't done trackdays before it's a great introduction without being too hard on the car.

All of us booking onto a 'full track day' at Donington, rockingham, Silverstone or Mallory would be another contender. but I think we would then lose the atmosphere and the timing element adds a lot IMO.
