ooo Posted June 25, 2015 Report Share Posted June 25, 2015 Is there a difference between TGS and Comp geo, Stock frames seem to either be short with a lower 50-60 BB or longer with a 70+ BB, Is this a personal preference thing, or is one type more commonly used in TGS or Comp ? Greetings Posted July 1, 2015 Report Share Posted July 1, 2015 Definitely a matter of preference. Compy geo and TGS aren't that different nowadays. There's been an overall shift towards compy geometry which is proving to be really good for urban riding as well. Something to consider is that unless you like really short bikes, you might want to go for a slightly longer wheelbase when chosing a high bb frame. The higher the bb rise, the shorter the frame feels. Also higher bb's promote static riding, while lower bb's will be better for rolling moves. A frame will generally feel short if reach is under 650mm, 680mm would already be a very long frame by current standards. Anything in between should feel comfortable for most riders and you can fine tune the bike by altering the handlebar angle or changing the stem if that doesn't help. Not necessarily shorter as a lot of people used to favour the long model frames over the short when there was a choice between the two (deng frames for the most part) The lower bb is the bigger factor, i understand the need for as much clearance as possible when riding sections and natural all the time as you don't want to clip anything and gain points. However, in a city centre when you're riding nothing but walls it really isn't needed. It has also killed taps which is a massive shame as it used to be such a big part of the scene! TAP, gap, sidehop... It could just be me though as in pretty much every aspect of life I'm more into where we have come from than where we are going (cars, music, etc.) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

TGS riders seem pretty comfortable on high bb frames but just the strength seems to be the issue. Everyone seems obsessed with weight and will use parts not suitable either because there's no other option or because they have their priorities wrong. Frames used to be around the 2kg mark, now people complain if a frame is over 1.5kg and then complain when the lighter frame breaks, obviously some people want heavier frames but because people just bought lighter frames manufacturers couldn't sell the heavier ones.....I'd like to see a resurgence of more durable frames, either just designed and tested properly or just made heavier to be sure. 2 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I wouldnt say we want heavier frames, but I'd like the compagnies to be more focused on making more durable frames then on making them lighter. dngr2self Posted July 2, 2015 Report Share Posted July 2, 2015 Modern geo comp bikes are good for both because they're good on the back wheel, so well suited for sidehops and gaps ect and the type of obstacles popular in comp riding.
