Well i got invited to a pre-paid showing of this film tonight. I wasn't quite sure what to expect, i found it quite hard to beleive that anybody not looking like brosnan could be james bond so you might say i went in as quite a sceptical member of the audience.

First few opening scenes were very gritty, dark scenes that protrayed bond as being a kind of rogue agent that was generally little more than an exagerated hitman. Craigs performance began exceptionally well, he really captured the way bond was an almost evil kind of character, with lots of anger and a sinister mood he really stood out from the other bonds as not having a lot of difference to a typical villian.

Throughout the film his acting never dropped below the standard of those first few opening scenes and in quite a few places it was even better. As the film progressed you got to see how bond began to understand how he should work as an agent and what was expected of him, he still manages to retain the (quoting johnathon ross) "come and have a go if you think your hard enough" approach despite becoming a more reasoning and likeable character.

The film itself features almost no CG effects, well none that are obviously notable like the last few films (stupid planes flying through directed beams of sunlight as just one example). The effects were actually co-ordinated and enacted, giving a much more realistic feel to the film. There were no bits that crossed out of the realms of beleivability so made the film even better than ones before it.

The storyline has many twists and turns, some of which are predictable but others leave you suprised as you just don't see them coming. The overall storyline was great and other leading parts were played well too, M was seen to be a very menacing yet caring character.

As the film ended your left with a feeling that daniel craig has earned his title of bond and that you wonder how you doubted it in the first place. In my eyes he IS bond and does it so convincingly, the delivery of the famous line is an anticipated one but that builds up just how good it is.

In summary, sorry for the rambling and the film is great, go watch it

Can't wait to go see it, but as you said yourself, i was a bit skeptical at first too, after reading this and a couple of other reviews im really looking forward to it. MI6/the SIS shouldnt be all fancy etc, and from what i hear this is leaning to a more realistic side of things.

Also, is john cleese still in it?

I wouldn't download it, it's nothing like the experience of the cinema!

Then again I wouldn't go and see Bond because I haven't liked any of them. Far fetched stunts don't do it for me i'm afraid, I like Asian films (No, not that kind) & horror!

Anything sickening that gets the imagination going is good for me.

Well if you've seen the opening scene to bond and liked it go watch District 13, you should've done it already! It's absolutely brilliant, and features the other french guy that isn't in Bond!

Having seen the film I can say it was one of the most enjoyable bonds In a while! I loved Pierce as Bond, and Golden Eye is a brilliant BRILLIANT film! Casino royale blew that out of the water!

The only thing is shamless ford, samsung, and sony plugs that drag away from the film and remind me of the adverts before the film!

One last thing... How come I was the youngest person in the cinema, on opening day, and I'm 18??? I was sat there thinking I was about to watch Roger Moore rather than Daniel Craig...

Agreed. Haven't seen the new bond film yet, but that is a bloomin good opening scene for a film.

I loved it. It kinda reminds me of Goldeneye which was the first Brosnan film. It was a very typical Bond film with basically lots of quips, fighting, womanising and Aston Martins (They even had a DB5 in it). So nothing really that out of the ordinary. But it was a fair bit darker than the other Bond films (Although Die Another Day was quite dark too) which was cool, it was pretty grown-up. And I have no idea how it was only a 12 certificate - It was really violent.

The only real problems were him emerging from the sea in his speedos, showing off his body. That's not for Bond to do, that's for his ladies. Oh, and he was always pouting which was a bit annoying.

But yeah, if you're thinking of going to see it, do.

Ace film, saw it on Saturday with a big group of mates and thoroughly enjoyed it. One of the best Bond films in a very long time, although Goldeneye still holds true to me! Much darker and more sinister film than previous, but worked really well and Mr Craig really managed to pull it off well! Looking forward to seeing what they do for the next film now. Did anybody else cringe like mad when he gets bag-tagged by Le Chieffre in the boat? I think every guy in the audience shuffled in their seats then. Had to laugh when Bond turns to him and says "You know I'll have died with you scratching my balls" or something to that effect >_<

Yeah it was a little painful, kinda irritated me and the guys I was with cos there's just no need for it when you've already sat through the adverts before the film! The scene where he arrives in the Bahamas and drives down the seafront in the new Ford just p*ssed me off, it may aswell be the next Ford TV advert!

Hate to be picky being an old bond fan and all but since when has bond had a scar on his eye ? Also why couldnt they make a new one rather than going over old terrortory. Ahh well I will probably go see it and still be impressed but theres my tupence on the matter.

I think a lot of people have missed the point to this bond film. Although its been based on the 1st ever book by Ian Flemming, the story is in no chronological order in relation to any of the other bond films! This film was set right now, not to be backtracking on previous films, hence relations to 9-11 etc. The first 5 mins or so of the film where its all washed out and grainy is a flashback to when he became a 00-agent first. It doesnt exactly relate to what happens for the rest of the 2 hours or so! Most of the bond films have had no continuity, and this applies to this one aswell. As much as I am lead to believe, this bond film essentially wipes the slate clean. They are taking them down a very different path to previous films, hence being much more dark and brooding. The story was also much more choppy and complex than past bond films which have tended to be fairly light entertainment, if you get my meaning. There are aparently 4 or 5 more books written in the same sort of timeframe as Casino Royale which will be turned into bond films, but in the newer style with different direction and a very different James Bond! I personally cant wait, as was really blown away by this one and the new Bond!

Yeah I like the fact that it explains how he gets the DB5 (Y)

See above. My take on it was that it was more of a nod to the bond-traditionalists! Cleverly done though, and still a gorgeous car! I did nearly cry when they destroyed the new Vanquish DBS, aparently 3 in total were trashed filming that one scene! :(

12 years later and I quite like some of the Bond films, but still not an action film fan. Now I do watch Asian films (Yes, that kind) and I'm disappointed at the amount of pixellation.

Top quality 12 year bump anyway, random casino spammer. Bravo.
