Halfords on the whole is a shop where you can purcahse sort of DIY mechanical things. Car parts, exhausts, filters and all that sort. Each store is split up into sections. There is: -Ripspeed -Parts -Bikehut -Auto Clinic When Halfords first started out it was a load of highstreet stores, so for example you would have a highstreet store for ripspeed, and another for bikehut ect. However this was before Britian had come accros bussiness parks and the likes of. When it did however Halfords converged all of these section into one big warehouse like store. Most stores have the same layout, the bikehut part is on a balcony and the rest of the store below. The bikehut part of the store sells and fixes bikes. There are two main brands that bikehut sells, Apollo and Carrera. And then you have the likes of the more special bikes such as Kona and GT.
Each bikehut 'team' is normaly made up of atleast two full time workers, one of which is a 'specialist' and various ammounts of part time workers depending on how many are needed. Halfords isn't exactly the best place to go to for trials parts. They do sell KMC Kool chains, and can order in Maxxis tyres but that's as far as they go with trials parts. Don't expect every store's staff to know about trials parts, they might not understand front freewheel cranks etc, because it wont be what they're used to seeing. What with there being such a small minority of trials riders dotted around.. Most staff will be used to fixing 'family bikes' such as kids bikes, and mountain bikes, not exactly specialist stuff. So just keep this in mind when you visit different stores, cut them some slack. If you're lucky, you'll have atleast one person in Bikehut that knows his stuff, preferably trials, if not, they should understand what you mean better then the 15yr old lad that's dad made him get a job there. Not all stores are the same staff-wise, some will be useless, you'll be better off getting your gran to help you in some cases, others will be really helpful. Halfords is a good place to go to for tools and service equipment, such as brake oil (Dot and Mineral) GT85, chain lubes, and cleaning equipment. They do sell Muc Off, which is what every store should have as mainstock, so it'll be on the shelf. For around a pound cheaper you have the halfords equivalent stuff, which is equally as good, but it's orange. Not pink.
