[edit] How To Remove A Front Freewheel.

First, you need to remove your crank arm. Please view here. If you strip the removal thread from the cranks, please use this method to remove your cranks here.

You need the correct tool. Tensile and Echo freewheels use a Bottom Bracket tool, all the others use a 4 pronged tool.

This is a Bottom Bracket tool.

This is a 4 Pronged Freewheel tool.

Bolt The Tool In Securely. I use a piece of threaded bar with a nut on either end, and a couple of big washers.

Don't hit it with a hammer as it doesn't work very well, this is just to show which direction to turn the crank arm. Anti-Clockwise.

This picture came out badly, but as you can see I use a wide pipe over the crank arm then another longer one inside that, this is just so you can get a lot of leaverage, I would rather use one long pipe than two, but I don't have one wide enough to go over the end of the crank arm. Pull this smoothly anti-clockwise and the crank arm should just turn, releasing the pressure.

You should only need to turn the crank arm about 90/180 degrees, then you can slacken the bolt holding the tool in and you should be able to drive the freewheel round by twist the tool with your hand. If it hasn't releaved the pressure enough, then repeat the whole precedure.
