> Tightening cranks

[edit] Tools needed

  • 8mm Allen key

[edit] Procedure

Hold the crank in one hand and the Allen key/14mm Socket in the other, rotate the crank anticlockwise and the tool clockwise. This will tighten the bolt. Continue until they are tight.

Attempting to tighten with extra leverage (such as an extension to the Allen key) may result in the bolt snapping, this is unlikely but could happen. Use of an old handlebar would do the trick.

If one would happen to own a tourque wrench the correct setting for a crank bolt would be 40nm.

It is reccomended that after fitting new cranks arms that bolts are retightend after every ride, for the first couple of rides just to ensure that they are not going to come loose.
