Turbo pad adjuster
From TrialsWiki
On a magura hs33 (05onwards) brake, the turbo pad adjuster (normally referred to as TPA) is a threaded (plastic) dial which is situated inside the lever blade in Magura HS33 . By turning the dial anti-clockwise the small steel actuation pin is pushed futher down, thus forcing the piston further into the lever body; and the pads further out. The system is designed for fast trail-side pad adjutment without tools, when pad wear changes the bite point of the brake. The standard tpa adjusters are notoriously easy to strip the threads out of, and so 74kingz, hen bikes etc make their own aftermarket aluminium versions.
The 04 hs33's tpa adjuster is mounted outboard of the blade, although the mechanism is still situated inside the blade. The tpa works inbasically the same way. a threaded section being turned, forcing the actuation rod down and therefore the pads out. These tpa's are also fairly weak, although still stronger than the 05. Luckily these tpa's are easily fixed.
The Magura HS11 and hs22 do not feature a TPA, system, although have a pad adjustment system, similar to a hope disk brake, with a bolt in the base of the lever blade that forces the piston inwards when tightened.
The "Turbo pad adjuster" is a trademark owned by Magura. Note, however, that the Echo CNC rim brake employs a virtually identical system to the 05 hs33 on its echo sl rim brakes.
