  1. As a matter of interest ... why no to the HiFi ? And what frames would you recommend to look out for going on the things that have been discussed above?
  2. yer... had sussed that. The wheel can go back into my other bike!! play bike for riding to and in the woods... got my air 'zocchi's to go on as well as the spare Hope brakes and middleburns!
  3. It has been with me for around 8 years that rim ... I haven't decided for deffo on the marino by the way, just exploring options and what to look for. A good cheap deal comes up and i may be on a Ally frame! What was the Echo HiFi like? ..
  4. The rock ring still fit with a front free-wheel... never even looked I still have my old middleburns as well ... i am still running Mavic 121 on the rear almost vintage now!!
  5. Cheers for all the input... and thanks for pointing out our crap riding john As was said above... 100 quid for something made to whatever i want is cheaper than a 300-400 off the shelf model. Something i forgot to mention in my first post was how much i used to be a fan of steel over Ally... they seem to ride smoother, which is good for old and knackered joints!! I had Sunn and Rocket frames as my previous two bikes years ago. And with my lack of skill i may not be jumping off big things but crashing or heavy landings will happen... to be able to weld it up myself would be ideal as i have access to welders. ... of course there is the other thing, if you have seen my motorcycle trials bike you will realise that i like something different. I blinged it up to make it stand out when stood against a tree at an event with all the other Beta's. So the hand made one would be a one off. So something like a Kamel frame geo with 25mm bottom brkt height... that be ok. I would like to feel more confident up on the back wheel. I will have to build this up from stuff i have already and then improve when money available... i have a hope rear hub at the moment but do like the front freewheel idea. I have Onza cranks at the moment with a screw on echo guard... not sure if a front freewheel will fit on that?. See, said i was a newbie with all this modern stuff Cheers again.
  6. Right... no doubt this has been asked many times but i would like the up to date thinking. I am just starting to think about a new frame... be it custom made or off the shelf there is one thing i have no idea on, geometry!! Back in the old days, when i started riding, you just had a frame you liked and went with it. There weren't many trials frames out there and most were converted small frames from cross country or jump bikes. No i see you lot all going on about bottom bracket height, length of top tube etc etc.. For an old bloke who hasn't kept up with it all can you explain what is good, what isn't and why as far as geometry goes. And what difference it may make to the riding... is it easier to get onto the back wheel or up onto rocks etc Obviously i am a low level rider that can just about get onto the back wheel and up onto a 3 foot rock (just!) and i tend to ride sections rather than just concrete hop off one ledge... is short or long, low or high what i would need?.. if it is any help i am a tad under 6 foot and weigh far too much (14 stone) !! Whilst we are at it... front or rear freewheel? cheers
  7. try that... the above wouldn't load well.
  8. nice images... nice location. Can't beat a bit of ..."jeeeezzzus"
  9. about as good as i get at the moment!!!
  10. I think you may find he is on here... if not answering he is definately watching May be an option although i reckon there may be time differences in making some frames... specials etc may take longer than ones he has done before, but no harm asking.
  11. I had an email back from the man... any geo and configuration, he will build it. Reason for tubing used is that there just isn't any better available in Peru... unless you pay big bucks. But he says no problems with tubing that he does use apart from being a tad heavier. Email reply came back within several hours... seems like a nice geezer. He said sorry for his English but i reckon he speaks it better than half of us on here !!
  12. .... i have witnessed him trying to cook a burger on a bbq which still had the plastic seperator sheets on it!!! Of course, he was very drunk at the time
  13. Any of you guys riding or attending this event... i went to the british motorcycle trials championship at this location last year armed with several cameras but missed the cycle stuff the week after but this year i aim to get to both. Hopefully with stills and video camera. For those that have been do they have the sections mainly in the rock and concrete area just as you get into the wooded area or are they well scattered?
  14. ... me too so then... maggie and disc mount, finished in KTM orange so i can fit black running gear and my r2wtrials logo in black and white. Sound ok
  15. Cheers for that mate... nice play area you have there. Looks ideal for our moto trial stuff. What we would like to do is find any other older beginners in the west country to hook up with. Nothing worse when you are totally new than having half a dozen youngsters leaping tall buildings whilst you are still trying to get balance on the flat!! Anyone fit that bill from around the Bristol, WSM or Swindon area???
  16. Hiya Tony... got home safe then hows the headache? ... we had a bloody good laugh, next get together may well be in Bristol... but not the usual places! Still hiding to save our embarrassment!!
  17. we did.... friday... all day! was very funny and we will be doing it again very soon
  18. 'scuse me young man... would you mind getting off our street furniture!! nice one mate, now you can see why me and our old guys won't ride anywhere that is too public... we are crap! Worle has far better places to hide!
  19. Before i get all excited and try and order one... that price for the stock?... and with whatever brake mounts and drop-outs? I think you guys would be amazed at how cheap you can buy material for, it is the labour time you are paying for with small scale makers like these and if he has it set up well and his costs are low then that is why you can get frames at this price... remember that the big companies get them made in the hundreds or thousands in the far east and then you have all the transport costs and various profits for all along the way before the dealer puts his profit on top. Probably cost a tenner or less for each frame to be made over in china or wherever.... this guy appears to be cutting all the middle men out and being realistic with his price, if the product is good then this is the sort of guy to support.
  20. Nice riding... that's not Gareth Hinton in the top picture acting as minder is it?
  21. Well, ok , you can have a good laugh at our feeble efforts Tony, Kev, Graeme and myself are all over 40... in fact the total age of the 4 of us is 170 years!! So what do you do when you are that old and have a day off work... gardening, sunbath, shoping... ermm, no you get them all together and we attempt to do some cycle trials!! Story and image link here.... In about another 5 years, assuming none of has died from a heart attack, i think we may be able to do a 3 foot step and even back hop off something Of course i put this on here as a public service.... to show you how good you lads really are!!! And also go kick your dads up the arse and tell them to get out and ride.......
  22. added new Michael brown graphics kit and titanium front pipe etc to mine now.
  23. Martyn unpacked a new 24 inch frame for me to see.... disc mounts are between the stays as the Stock will be. He had it directly from factory so still bare ally, and liked the look of it. We both thought a set of stickers on it and go! I took a few piccies of the riding... Here
  24. riding will be putting it a bit strong!!! The bike is on the bench in the garage and comes out for a hop once in a while... remember i am 43 now and have a slip disc as well, the motorcycle trials riding gets first shout if i am healthy!!
