.. a quick thanks to all. You were right, the v set up is so much better than the Hope on the back. So good in fact that it makes the front disc feel shite!!! I got a pair of sd7 levers from Chain reaction for 15 quid and had some shimano diore cheapo arms laying around. Put a nice braided cable kit on and it is awesome even without special pads or a booster. The frame flexes a bit giving a slightly spongy feel so i will be after an Echo unless i get something cheap from ebay!! Now fancy a BB7 for the front so that i can keep the levers the same on both sides... anyone got a cheap one going

Hiya Jon... how you doing. Yep rode bens Zoo and it was good. Found avid sd7 levers at about 15 quid for a pair at chain reaction... including free delivery. And ben reckons he has a sd7 set of arms knocking about. I gave him a free nearly new Middleburn rock ring and cog yesterday so i reckon he owes me I have good old mavic 121's that i ground about 4 years ago before i stopped riding, a refresh with the grinder and a bit of tar will do the job for the mo.. long enough to see if i am on the right track. My other main concern about the hopes is that i know i will bugger up the disc in 5 minutes as i am starting from scratch again with my riding!! p.s. last time i saw you, you served me breakfast out of the macdonalds window
-
Cheers for that... if nothing else the booster may stop me sitting on the arms when i slip off the back again Pads... Heatsinks?

Tell him to take up trials... it's safer !!! .. also tell him to get well soon...

I just want to try something... at the moment i have an old Hope disc set-up on the back. But after riding a few v brake set-up bikes i actually preferred them. No main reason but i have found that in my beginner type of way i ride if i relax one little bit of pressure on my lever it slips slightly and this is unnerving for me at my stage of learning!! With the v's i seemed to be able to hop about on the back wheel much more confidently. Now this could all be in the mind but as the mind is what is controlling my riding i will give it the benefit of the doubt!!! Question.... i run an old school set-up... giant frame with a hope hub and mavic 121's. What are the best v's to go for without breaking the bank... and best booster as i know the frame will need it. Also is there much difference in cables? My idea is to go for avid sd7's and say an echo booster... not too expensive so that if i change my mind and go back to the disc i haven't wasted loadsa money. (hence the resaon i haven't mentioned maggies) Any thoughts....

... bloody 4 strokes!!! Will have my '08 Beta rev3 soon.
-
I agree... the new frames do look nice. Bit like my new Beta Rev3 looks nothing like a road bike. Wasn't a dig... just watched a vid that had a guy doing just about everything i see on the new bikes but it was about 4 years old and he had a mini seat on the bike!!! Do the new frames make it easier to balance and control on the back wheel?

When i take the gsxr out on the road i wear a full face helmet... when i ride motorcycle trials i wear an open face helmet. Not in a million years would i wear a full face for moto or cycle trials. It feels restricted, vision is not so good, heat build up is greater and of course you will look a right tit...!!! I have a complete bottom set of false teeth... caused by being hit by a pulley off an agricultural machine i was working on. I did have implants, they were crap and kept coming loose. If you don't like a bit of risk take up something else.... but watch out, knitting needles can get you as well!!!

I have come back to cycle trials after 4 years away (maybe more, getting old you know) and was wondering when all the new style frames came in... and why. What brought me to this thought was that i have been watching some older videos on youtube etc and noticed that the riders did almost the same stuff but on the frames that still looked like a cycle... i am not talking about 22 inch cross country frames but things like my Giant frame, Brisa, the first Koxx frames, megamo and monty stuff etc. In the years i have been away doing the motorcycle trials i really took no notice of the bike trials stuff and suddenly people are talking about length and bb height etc....and the bikes have no seat tube at all now.. is it all really needed. Has it made riding easier or opened up different moves. Or is it just a fashion that the companies have created to sell stuff. I am not saying it is all wrong, just trying to understand where it all came from and why... p.s. Humour me, i am old

I like to keep out of sight and blend in with the background... my latest ride attire .... Honestly, we were out with the moto trials bikes and just took the cycle along for a lunch time play!!! -
That is a bit nice isn't it.... getting my 2008 rev3 soon and will be doing a few bits to it. V-mar top clamp, v-force3 reed kit and some carbon bits. And maybe some anodising of parts ......

Yep... back in the days when i first started. My first bike was a Sunn team issue. Rode with guys on Zaskers or rocket frames. When i as in my early to mid thirty's instead of early 40's !!! Now i have just got back into it i am riding a Giant team frame... very old school compared to todays frames. But feels more like my mototrials bike in stance so will do the job until i learn to actually ride anything bigger than 4 pallets high

Pedo Trials...... sound like a case at the old bailey for child molesters Many of the top 10 Moto Trials riders have come from biketrials... Tarres was a biketrial rider for years before getting a moto trial bike. In spain it is the normal way. Watch the world rounds or the indoor moto stuff now and you will see that the techniques are very cycletrials. It did seem to take a while for the cycles to get to the no seat style... like the moto's have been for many years.

Brilliant vid... lovely bike.

Both bikes as they stand as of today... first my Beta and the Giant now with Revell forks and front disc.... ahh that's better!! Put my old Kore stem on and left the fork uncut and used spacers so that I can see what height i want.
-
Bike went together well.... everything fitted The new Revell forks i got for 20 quid are very nice.
