  1. I'd have been well up for this, but don't get out of uni till 5 tomorrow evening - I'm in Penryn, so it's a fairly long train ride up. Let me know if you're riding a weekend though, and I'll come join you. Haven't ridden properly for a good few months, so looking forward to getting back into it.
  2. Not me I'm afraid J-dog. I'm leaving on the 24th.
  3. Good stuff. The idea of a carbon steerer is terrifying.
  4. What's going on with the fork steerer tube though? Is that a carbon fibre midsection bonded to alu upper and lower parts, or is it just surface sheathing to make it look pretty through the cut out headtube? How would that stand up strengthwise if it is a carbon midsection?
  5. That looks amazing. Any plans afoot for a 20" version?
  6. Really enjoyed that, and the preceeding part. Looking forward to getting out and about with you guys when I move down!
  7. Does anyone know the size of the thread on the bolt through axle that comes with Atomz ATK mods? I'm trying to find a bolt that'll fit on the end of it so I can use it in normal forks, but I'm pretty unfamiliar with thread sizes/pitches etc. Any help much appreciated!
  8. You guys are really stepping it up a notch. That's made me want to get out and start properly riding again.
  9. Very, very nicely built. You've done a great job with the old girl!
  10. It's stolen from Danny's section in Chas Nairn's (Brainchild Films on here) "Extended Family" DVD.
  11. I'll be going to Camborne this October to do the MSc Mining Geology. I've only been down for an interview, but I did have the chance to look round the facilities in the mining school itself, and the campus facilities like the library etc. Having already been to two uni's and completed my first degree, I can safely say that Camborne is well above par in terms of the quality of the facilities available at most other uni's, and from chatting to the lecturers and current students, the quality of teaching is excellent. Most of the equipment in their analytical labs is the only stuff of it's kind in Europe as well. I stayed in student halls over the few days I was there, and compared to halls I've been in before (including the ones I stayed in in my first year, my girlfriend's, and friends halls), they were much better. They were only built a few years ago, so haven't had a chance to get grotty yet. I'm not sure what the prices would be like for full terms though. I'd highly recommend Geology. I don't regret a single thing about doing it - I got to travel to lots of new places, do some incredible things, and meet lots of new people whilst doing fieldwork. Socially you tend to get to know the people on your course better than other courses like law/chemistry etc because you're always away on trips, staying together in hostels and drinking together all the time. One thing I would say is choose your course very carefully. I went to Edinburgh, which is excellent, but very research based. The result was that my degree was very theoretical - I got an excellent general grounding in all types of geology, but no career specific skills. This means that most Edinburgh graduates need to go on to masters study to learn industrially applicable skills you can actually get a job with - me and a few others are going to Camborne for Mining Geology, others are going on to do engineering or hydrogeology masters. So if possible, get on a geology degree with a strong vocational bias. The one advantage of you going to Camborne for your degree would be that you'd learn vocational geology from day one, which would prepare you for a job in the mining industry from start to finish. The downside to that is you would have to be certain a career in the mining industry was for you - you'll graduate Camborne with a bias in knowledge toward mining, and so it'll be harder to break into other parts of geology. I had the four years of my first degree to really figure out where I wanted my career to go, and then specialise for it at masters. Lastly, Penryn and Falmouth are fairly small places. From what I saw, there are a small amount of excellent pubs/bars and a few clubs that the students tend to converge on, but generally there isn't the variation you'd get in a larger city. The pace of life there is much quieter and chilled out. Drinking, going out and visiting new places are all part of the undergrad experience, so if you like going out partying all week, a city based uni might be a better choice.
  12. Hey man, really looking forward to coming down to Cornwall - was there in January for an interview and from what I saw it's certainly a beautiful part of the country. I'll definitely hit you up on Facebook when I arrive and you can show me round. I'm slowly building up my alcohol tolerance in preparation for the CSM experience. I've a couple of mates on the course this year, and I've heard some pretty mad stories about what they get up to. Most of them involve the police at some point in the night Sweet, I'll try and take a look
  13. I'm Scottish, so A levels don't mean much to me! I take it that means you'll be starting around September/October 2010 for the 3 year undergrad course? Is it mining geology you're going for, or one of the mining/mineral engineering courses? I'm coming down for the mining geology masters. Keen to get stuck in - the facilities at Camborne were amazing when I saw them in January, but a bit apprahensive about getting thrown straight in at the deep end. I've done nothing mining or geotechnically related so far! Don't know if I'll be down Plymouth way before October, but I'll prob get to Camborne and move in around late September, so let me know if you do go and we can get a ride and some pints in! Cool, had a wee browse round some of those areas on the internet and they look like great fun. Not doing much natural where I am at the moment, so a change from street'll be nice. Thanks for the reply Yeh, sure will. I'm looking forward to travelling round the south in general. Haven't really been able to make many trips down from Scotland because it's such a mission! Good stuff man, I'll probably bump into you at some point over the next year then! Thanks for all the information so far guys
  14. I'm coming down to Cornwall to study for a year at the Camborne School of Mines just outside of Penryn, and was wondering what the local riding scene is like? Was down for an interview in January and had a scout round Penryn and Falmouth (where I'll most likely be renting a flat for the year), but didn't see much in the way of riding (although we were concentrating more on pubs at the time!). Does anyone live in either of the two, or know of any decent spots around them? I'd imagine there'll be a fair amount of natural along the coastline, but how about street? Also, how is the wider cornwall riding scene? I've noticed a few Plymouth rides posted up here, but what about Exeter etc? Cheers, Strath.
  15. Rab, you pirate, stop rocking the boat! Holyrood at 12.
  16. I'll be there. Just need to wangle my way out of work.
  17. Recently bought a second hand Atomz ATK2 mod with the bolt through axle system, where both dropouts on the forks are enclosed, and one is threaded for the axle to bolt directly into. I'm looking for the disc versions of these - had a browse round Tarty, but can't find any on there. Do these exist, are they still produced, or can someone point me in the direction of some second hand ones?
  18. Yes. And bought a new one which should be here on Monday.
  19. I've already picked up a sweet little number to replace it. You'll see it sometime soon when I start riding in the next few months.
  20. I'll be in Cornwall those days. And also won't have a bike. Johny, have you got a new number?
  21. I'm not coming along anymore - had to spend the money for the train down on flights somewhere else. Have fun chaps.
  22. Didn't Fletcher Gillet do them on his Ellsworth? Good effort though.
  23. ?? No. Excellent vid though.
