  1. A gap without a pedal kick...that far? Thats sick.!
  2. Hi, do you mean rear wheel hopping on the spot? There is a sweet spot in which you would learn to aim your front wheel to. Once you find that point, try hopping 2-4 times, slowly as you get better you will be able to hop more. Remember the lower the front wheel, the lower your butt should be. Once you've found your sweet spot, and sorta master rear wheel hopping, you can den try to hop forward, backwards and sideways. Hops are useful when you have little space for even the tiniest pedal kicks. They also give you momentum from the bounce.
  3. Thanks for the replies guys sorry i've not been online for awhile been so busy with work.
  4. Hi guys would the Hayes El Camino Be a good choice for a budget disc brake for a 221 PR? A magura marta cost 900+ SGD while an EL camino cost only abt 400SGD.
  5. 20" Pros : Lighter,Easier to Throw, Lesser Stuff to Break 20" Cons : Harder to roll up on roll off obstacles (smaller wheelbase). The 20" is great for someone who has been riding 20" their whole lives, its an active bike, easier to throw around. Great for smaller frame sized rider like me! 26" Pros : Rolling becomes much easier due to the bigger wheelbase, more distance covered 26" Cons : Heavier,A lil more stuff to break, not as flicky and throwable as a 20". The 26" is great for people riding mtbs all their lives. Much easier to balance on them. Its all based on personal preferences, both have its good and bad points. I prefer the 20" over the 26" due to my small frame short human body. But i love the feeling of being able to balance extra stable and being able to roll off lotsa obstacles on the 26". Especially since i roll alot. For a beginner i recommend a 20". Slightly cheaper, Easier to learn on it, though it may be a little active, you'll get used to it after awhile.
  6. As much as i hope that Trials would grow in size and the quality of riders, i guess being small has its advantages..heh...gives u a human touch of belonging in a small tight knit group! Well hopefully that is. Everytime i ride with my friends, i feel so blessed and lucky. Though we do disagree on stuff...but we're only humans... at the end of the day i guess the small group thingy bonds us as friends...in a tighter way. I'm -------> "Not Gay".
  7. I usually drink 500ml of plain cold water, followed by a banana for added energy! Just before i ride, (depending on how hot and how hard i ride) I would always buy a can of isotonic drink like H2O or Pokari Sweat, and 2 bottles of 1.5l Mineral Water. Hee! My first post as a validated member of UK Trials Forum YaY!
  8. I use 1 finger braking all the time, Your muscles in your hands and palms work in syncronisation. If you use 2 fingers i assume your index and middle finger... that would only leave your ring and PINKIE...and your thumb. I wonder where you're gonna find the strength to throw the bike around or even hold it stable... Your middle finger is probably the strongest finger, not only for that international language..thingy..or poking stuff...heh So having your middle finger on the handlebar would help in holding the bike a lil more stable... i might be wrong... but hell yeah it boils down to personal preference.... Just my thoughts
  9. Spongy is the word!! Watch out for your TPA.... Make sure you tune them back to zero everytime you finish riding... Try not to use more den 1 round of ur tpa...its better to adjust ur brakes from the mounts, den rely too much on the TPAs. Somehow they cause lots of bubbles in my system. My LBS adviced against using it, well too much of it.
  10. Aye...you bleed baby oil like Magura oil...the..same way, using a big syringe...lol. Magura oil isn't as thick as baby oil i reckon, Magura oil is made to withstand changes in temperature. Not too sure bout baby oil, it might be too thick or thin..i dunno.
  11. Don't use dot 4 or 4 point etc... Don't use baby oil. Its best to use Magura blood(mineral oil). Just stick with the original, you won't go wrong. You might wanna check on those pads, might have to change them. Get a rebleed....too. Spend a lil cash, to re-tune your brakes...and you'll get problem free ridings... Cheers.!
  12. Deng Qiang...is a rider, he is also very good at business. Because of him, We are given the options of getting high end parts for low end prices. Though i'm not sure if you compare koxx and Monty's highest end parts....to the Echo Cncs... But i'm proud of him lol....i'm chinese. though im from Singapore. My next bike wld def be an Echo. I just need cash to buy my martas, sell my pr, top up some cash.... and i'm gonna ride a ECHO LITE WAHaHAHAHAhaHaHAHA lol sorry...
  13. Try becoming comfortable with your bike first, the geometry can be really weird for someone who has never ridden a trials bike in his life. Get your basics right before moving on to bigger moves, or harder techniques. Get your... Trackstand (BAlanCe) Pivot (twisting either rear or front wheel) Rockwalk (a pivot in motion sideways on the ground) Pogo (2 wheels hopping in place, small low hops) and finally your hopping on rear wheel. If you're falling back, while trying to hop on your rear wheel, it means that you're too far back. Theres a sweet spot of balance for you. You'll find it after awhile. Remember, the higher the front wheel, the higher ur butt shld be....the lower front wheel, the lower ur butt shld be. Arms should be bent, legs moderately bent...squish tight to your rear brakes... Good luck...
  14. It might be a defect, you'll never know...nothing is perfect in engineering.... lol... But i do agree with you that some Monty products are way over-priced. After all you're buying a branded BikeTrial product. "world champion status". Just like buying branded goods, everything will be over priced.
  15. Hey i know politics are all around, but it seems quite bad over here. Riders would get a "UR A willy" for buying that bike from him...kinda look..from the Monty dealer here. Its a stupid bike, bla bla bla...do you guys get that over in the UK? I mean, i guess as an end user, a customer...we shouldn't worry where we put our money. Though good advice would be good on whatever we do in trials incl selecting our bikes, it got so bad once, i bought echo forks, cranks, to setup on my 99 hydra. N i got a huge up ur ass...for the whole damn day at the Monty shop. Over here we only have 2 shops for Trials. www.attitudebikes.com - Official Monty Dealer & BikeTrial President of Singapore. www.thenextbike.blogspot.com - Offical Deng Dealer & Koxx Singapore, and also a personal friend of mine. Got me so intimidated, i wanted to quit riding...i was 16 den. But now i've grown and really i guess, before i buy a bike, i do my research extensively... i ask around. Just to make sure, my next parts or bike would get a "willy" comment from the Monty shop. I'm not a very good rider, just average...heck i can't even sidehop or pedal up 5 feet, can't ride my line the way i plan for it . But as a rider...i do wish that Trials in singapore would be united, and that the aim of the riders n shops would be to promote BikeTrials & come together helping each other no matter what products they are carrying in. The reason why i registered an account here, was so that i could just chat...in a Trials forum.. The biketrial forum in Singapore is dying. Trials is dying in Singapore. "Sigh"
  16. I had the same idea too, i was FRIGGING reluctant to move on to disc from my rims HS 33s. lol! I WAS SO wrong! Get a disc, the control is superb...n mine is only a louise not a marta. I've hit my rotor onto the kurb and rocks a couple of times, nothing happened... My friend uses the TRY-ALL Trial brakes, the one like tarty's...hes been riding for 3 years on the same brakes...literally bashing the rotor while sidehopping and nothing happens.... I'm not saying rotors are bomb proof, but you'll seldom hit them really....go for it! I'm planning to run a rear disc once i have enough money to get a new set of martas.
  17. Hey..urm i really need to ask bout this.... I used to ride like 7 days a week, 8 hrs straight, of riding...due to the distance i had to cover on my 20" X Alps was 15 den. Had no side effects whatsoever.... but recently ever since i got back to Trials i'm 23 now...i only ride like twice a week, of hard training. Eh...i realised that my right knee starts to hurt. And it gets worse after the ride, i do both Trials and Mtb. The ache is like a dull yet once bent "sharp" kinda pain. Yet it goes away after 2-3 days. This has been on going for bout a month now. I stretch...before every ride, at least for 5 mins.... RIDE ... PAIN ... stop riding for 2-3 days... not PAIN ... ride again... PAIN... it hurts until i can't walk properly. I don't know how it came about, i've not fallen on my knees so far....my landings have been great, and i've yet to jump down anything more den 6 feet yet. Its worrying me. Its probably is some ligament thingy and not the bone...i don't know. MONTY TI RIMS & HUBS. Eh...might burn some cash on a new pair of Monty 07 TI Black Hub and Monty TI white rims, an upgrade for my 221pr 06. Was also thinking of upgrading my mtb wheelset to mavic 717, DT swiss spokes and a pair of ISO DISC chris king hubs. Now which should upgrade...lol....can only choose one. I use my Trial Bike more often, but only twice a week on my MTB....but the trial bike would only last me "this long". After that the frame cracks and i don't know if i'll buy a new whole bike, or the frame and fork... oh yes do they fit on The Echo lite frame and forks? So i'm not too sure if i should get a wheelset(unless i can Xfer dem over to whatever frame n fork im buying). My MTB will be lasting me a long long long time, taking moderate casual leisure lol rides...on the coastal roads and a trip to the trail maybe once a month. If you were me what would u upgrade.?
  18. deng bikes ( echo, koxx , zoo, gu ) are the most popular in mod bikes now. The geo has shifted to shorter chain stays, longer wheelbases and higher bottom bracket height. Neatly all of the deng frames are extremely durable now, so you wont go wrong with one. jfyip Do take note that koxx isn't made by Deng. Echo,Adamant,Zoo,Czar,Gu = Deng Cheers!
  19. I guess the CK is for bling bling purposes, but ido know that the crane creek S3 and FSA pigs work just as well haha...mmmm mmmm i've always been crazy over CKs but for a headset mmmmmmm lol i'll go compare the price diff...soon...and weight...too haha
  20. Sorry didn't mean to tag..but lol.... just like to ask if its possible to fit a Chris King onto my current Monty 221 PR 06. I know the cups would fit no problems...1 and 1/8 threadless...but my concern would be the top cap. The Monty stems are slanted at the top cap...which means if i don't use my CK top cap...., that i would have to use my Monty. But the Monty top cap has gaps inside. (To save weight i think). So wouldn't dirt sweat n rust get into my CK headset though its sealed?
  21. Most bikes have been made with Higher BBs and Longer WBs The Montys remain almost the same, except for the 2008 Kamels... The Echo lite is a super durable bike. Not that light, 9kgs in all but still haha super durable!
  22. Those velos grips that come as a stock grip on the montys are nice.
