  1. I knew I should have improved the original meme to say mayan empire... Oh well
  2. If the mayans were that good at predicting the future the would still be mayans...
  3. Give Avast antivirus a shot as it allows you to run a scan during the boot procedure is windows which so that some viruses which use various ways to avoid detection can be caught and removed. The other thing I'd try is booting your/a windows boot cd/dvd and booting in to the recovery console and run chkdsk with the switches to check for defective sectors on. I think it is "chkdsk /f /r c:" without the quotes but if you run chkdsk /? it'll tell you. Could be a dying hdd.
  4. Degrees in the IT industry have long been replaced with industry specific certifications, on the Web side if things you can still get away with showing your work. Coming from a networking background originally I can say that's most certainly not true for the more systems oriented side of it though. Had I bothered getting mine back in the day I would not have been stuck in helldesk and I would be earning at least twice what I earn now... Other industries are obviously different but what I think we'll be seeing is a shift towards degrees being more relevant for academia, and certifications the taking their place there as well.
  5. Pft, I'm tech support and I have no people skills, f**king awesome at faking it though... What you really need is patience and the ability to compartmentalise. The biggest challenge is not getting agitated when customers start throwing their toys out of the pram and have a go at you. Which will inevitably happen...
  6. Get the bike built. Actually start riding again. Hope and pray my knees don't give out again...
  7. Hmm, food for thought right there. Thanks for the comments and suggestions guys.
  8. Both disc and thinner rim are considered but I've got my eye on a set of Alex DX32's going for 25 quid posted at the moment and trying to reuse as many parts as possible out of what I've got lying around to keep costs down. As for hassle, if my estimated measurements of the booster are correct all it takes is 4 holes drilled and threaded, 4 spacers, and 4 nuts at the bottom for extra security. And it should bolt to the cross bar at the top of the seat stays as well. Any thoughts as the how likely this plan is to fail on me?
  9. Considered that or just modifying the Evo II adapters the Maggie came with but the problem is that Barracuda decided to stick the brake bosses on the inside of the stays so no matter what I do I can't seem to get enough space for anything wider than the 28 ish I mentioned...
  10. As a winter project I am rebuilding the first trials bike I had but with some better parts and some parts changed due to availability. Frame is a Barracuda Ghetto, I know it's a sack of crap this is more sentimental than anything else, and as it has pretty narrow seat stays I'm either stuck with disc on the rear or a narrow rear rim. Originally I was gonna stick the Maggie I have lying around on but just can't fit it with a rim wider than about 28-29mm. In a fit of bodging genius I thought I could use a V-brake booster to make myself a V to 4 bolt adapter and stick on the Tensile offset 4 bolt mounts to be able to run a slightly wider rim on the rear and still use the Maggie. Any one tried this or have any thoughts in the idea? The booster I'm thinking of the Outland v brake booster or something similar. Any feed back appreciated.

Sorry, only found out they decided to release one in Europe about 3 weeks ago. My guess is it will be a more or less straight rebranding of the DNA so if it goes through CE certification etc without problems it could be anytine from the next few weeks to xmas time. But don't quote me on that estimate. I'll if I can get some more info in it when I'm back at work on Monday. Also might be worth keeping an eye on HTC press releases as they are gonna have release event in NYC any day iirc.

If that's the Droid DNA/J Butterfly I can confirm that a version of it is coming to Europe. No set dates at this point.
  13. Cheers, pretty much what I figured. Never hurts to ask though...
  14. For me it was an odd combination of needing something to get to work on and thinking about getting back in to skateboarding again. Had a mate who rode trials and had more or less enough spare parts lying around to build a bike up. Watching him playing around while we built the bike up got me interested and I ended up trading four wheels for two.
  15. Hi guys, Is there a significant benefit with headsets using sealed bearings in comparison to caged or loose bearings? Used to have a FSA The Pig headset and never had any issues with it and it was absolutely bomb proof. Building a new bike over winter and am looking at parts, not entirely sure on what to go with so I thought I'd see if there was a bit of advice to be found here. Cheers
