Felix, you would need to take the tyre off the rim, so you'd need a wee bit more latex.
Get onza to send you a new set of inserts? use the new backing plates to hold the inserts while you unscrew the pedals. Remove old inserts, clean old threads out and put back in with industrial loctite. It works.
He rides natural, so uses his pedals on rocks I think.
I really think you should try the shindigs, I just bought a second set for me jump bike. They really are great pedals.
