You're half right Tomm, in judaism one cannot renounce the religion as we consider ourselves a race, but you can stop practicing. To convert to Judaism is a VERY long and difficult process, however once you have converted you are as much a Jew as I am, the only thing is that you can't marry a member of the priestly tribes. Mike, Mr Poyzer has said that they only have black for now as that's what they sell most of, and maybe some other colours in future. I'd have to disagree with you on that, things become better understood through debate, without debate issues and ideas stagnate and become less relevant. By constantly re-evaluating the ideas behind the issue progress is made. In this case progress is an increased understanding of why, and whether, the word nigger can, or cannot, be used in a manner that is not offensive by someone who is not black. We have come to the conclusion that one day it will be a normal adjective in the english language, but is not yet, and that the more white people use it with black friends the more quickly the word will lose its offensive connotations, but that must be offset against possible offense to other black people.

Rob I think it's more the fact that there seems to be a level of discrimination, as to who is allowed to say certain words, that people are complaining about. I do however agree, certain words are offensive, so it's better to avoid them. However as english is a living, and therefore evolving, language words like nigger will eventually lose their power to offend as more people use them in coloquial speech. This causes a catch 22 as until the word is used normally it will remain offensive, but people will not use the word coloquially until the word is no longer offensive. I guess we just have to wait and see whether the word loses its offensive connotations and then use it or not as we see fit. Dave

Right, this is something I gave a lot of thought to a while back with some friends and our conclusions were: The word in itself is not derogatory and should be socially acceptable, BUT there are still connotations associated with the word that upset certain people a lot, usually black people, though sometimes others too. Let's put it this way, if someone you don't know walks up to you and says something potentially insulting; you will react differently to a friend than to a stranger, it's the same with nigger. I walk up to someone on Golders Green Road and go "Jew, right?" I'm liable to get at least a dirty look from a stranger, if I do it to a friend it's totally fine. It's the same with nigger. I agree that the word should become normalized, however it's not what it should be, it's what it is, get used to it and don't call black people niggers unless they are your friends and cool with it... Right, basically, a double butted spoke flexes more in the middle, so the fatigue is better distributed over a larger volume of spoke, so they last longer. A non butted spoke has a greater absolute strength, however normally snap first because the flex is usually contained in a small volume of spoke, typically near the head of the spoke, which experiences greatest fatigue, so snaps first... I've always used butted spokes so I can't compare the two, but the above is what I've been told and to me it makes sense.

Alright, I'm no physio or doctor, though I like to think I'm fairly up on the stuff, so if this doesn't help don't blame me. Anyway something I find often helps is: stand with your feet shoulder width apart, hang arms down to the side, then just gently twist your shoulders from side to side, try to keep the feet fairly still but not totally planted, do this gently like a dynamic stretch, if it helps you should find everything loosening up. If it feels strange, or painful try twisting more gently, or stop. P.S. I accept no liability... Dave
