  1. loads of bmxers slam all the time. Head injuries are actually not that unusual, mostly from flipping out of big 180 fakies etc when they are chucked backwards and whiplash their head to the floor. Its a pretty nasty accident. but most riders are so confident in their abilities to land something they don't bother, much like skaters I've always found the speed and impacts in bmx make the helmet move around a lot. the only helmets which provide enough protection (and look alright) are pisspot style and they have shit ventilation and aren't very comfy so most riders don't bother. I'm not promoting the lack of helmets just thats my take on the situation. if bmx style helmets were comfier and better ventilated they mite be more popular but i doubt it. The trend in bmx is not to wear one, unlike trials where the majority of us do wear one, but how many times do trials riders hit their head? i never have. (touch wood)
  2. I know its mainly bails but that 90' gap is basher stylee! Good effort on doing those rails though!

    Sidehops

go back to special level! it'll make me feel better! no other form of advice apart from the stuff we regularly discuss on rides
  4. don't get me wrong i think risers are great, i enjoy the space my rage bars provide as well! and most modern frames are designed around riser set-ups. but.... was running brisa (anyone remember them?) flats until recently. loved them too bits, gave em to a mate who wanted to try flats otherwise i'd experiment between the two. flats are really comfy for me, never had issues and i want to try some again soon!
  5. a more common slang for it is liquid metal
  6. otherwise find someone who is prepared to swap with shorter steerer forks! then no-one has bodged forks or weak areas!
  7. 2nd time car, but i reckon that was cos i didnt give two hoots about my car lisence. bike was 3rd time. (1 major no minors, 1 major no minors on previous 2) same examiner and she said both fails she was gutted not to pass me. neither were directly my fault but oh well! got my lisence now and couldn't care less. can't wait for NCB and more power!

    New Shoes

go out in this foul weather, ride as much as you can.... next time you ride in the dry they'll seem really grippy and nice! also just wear them, you'll tune into the sole stiffness and where they hold your foot quite quickly
  9. if i was in the line of riders to get this frame i would be worried about people building it in a rush and crossing/stripping threads, there is a strong possibility imo but so far the ideas and inclusions in the design look totally sick. looks like it'll turn out nice again.... and then they can put their name on it like george forman
  10. Of course! I just thought it through its not like the chain is rubbing on them its rolling around them so its just like a chainring etc duh! they look pretty pimp i'd colour code with the hub as well for added bling factor
  11. I've never broken one, just curious though, do they increase chain wear? I'm not a chain snapper (somehow mine last ages even with split links ) just thought it may be of interest to those who are.
  12. plus it would increase the costs to manufacturers, they would have to offer everything with RHD and LHD increasing manufacturing costs. This would bump up the price for the consumer and mean shops have to carry loads more of the same item. For example: cranks in both LHD and RHD and all the various lengths Meaning they will have less storage space/budget to hold the more popular lines. As Adam rightly puts it the threads on both cranks would only work if the freewheels were manufactured in RHD and LHD and you ran a fixed rear end. Otherwise its not worth it i reckon.
  13. There are loads of people mentioning on here how their (smooth) cams have slipped. The search function will pop up a few more in depth discussions but basically the general verdict is notched. It makes sense mechanically to use notched, you just have to think around the issue a bit.
  14. well it looks like the lever blade has been moved and cracked the body. just a suggestion and i know it doesn't fix this issue: remove the blade, and put all the small parts in a litle bag and zip tie it to the body while in transit (inside main packaging).
  15. i thought the pins were 'fatter' as well? that would be stronger
  16. lol yer, they assume we are antisocial and deliberately vanadlising stuff. it hacks me off when you are minding your own business, ass end of an industrial park and a dog walker goes... 'oh i dont think you boys should be here doing that, if you don't move on i'll call the police'
  17. a 'metal cutting disc' is what i use, any will do. Next find something made of hard steel (heat treated preferably) Then use the grinder on the steel to create a very sharp edge on your disc and bob's your uncle Another idea is to increase the 'angle of attack' for your grind, use the grinder more perpendicular to the rim. Best way is to practise on an old shagged rim you couldn't care less about but is the same material oh and wear galsses/goggles aluminium shards seem to go where ever they want. and if its inside (and you value your hearing)...ear defenders
  18. I love the unexpected lines that the more street riders hammer out, people like ruben, tom white/edwin delarosa etc. They seem to use whats available to them in ways most people wouldn't even comprehend, in a similar vain to mr mac i guess. With less then perfect kicks, rails, ramps and slopes they still are jaw dropping good. Park altough impressive does get repetative (imo), fair enough this guy is churning out huge moves, and from his other vids he really can flow and pick a line soooo well. I can't quite pick why i don't love it... maybe it just seems like for inspiration he goes on tony-hawks or something.
  19. Most axles are (heat) treated steel, of quite a high grade. which is why they can deal with us abusing them. but the onza hub axle will probably be a pretty universal size, try getting dimensions and hitting a few spares places, and stick something up in the wanted section
  20. ye it looks pretty similar to my 08 pure, i may be wrong so don't crucify me if i am
  21. the tree gap isn't completely unique, although it is inventive and huge! but macaskill does a similar thing in one of his vids. those ups and gaps are epic though, most people wouldn't even see those challenges!
  22. if you do go for tugs and there is a lot of excess bolt exposed, cut em down! lost count of how many times i've bent thenm when i used to run them on my bmx. i worked out what the maximum amount of thread i'd need was, left the bolt there, cut the excess off with hacksaw. unscrewed the bolt to tidy up the thread. i loved running these style tensioners, never any issues (apart from bending the sticking out bolt) and that was running pegs as well.
  23. to warm up i tap, gap and sidehop as high/far as i can.....get nackered and go home. so basically my warm up is my ride Seriously the best bet is a (slightly old/maybe a sticky) topic in full members written by a doctor/physio about injuries, in there he does a good job of explaining some preventative measures against muscle injury! it is important to warm up, especially if you have driven to a spot to ride.
  24. if he needs a trouser that breathes, shinnys that keep you warm aren't really ideal. some of the DH/freeride pants out there are designed for hot climates. however sometimes they have built in armour which is kinda pointless. i'd say if jeans are too much then maybe cargo/combats they are much lighter and more breathable but can look a little odd lol. hope it helps
  25. the 74kingz sits on the axle anyway so yes in theory you could use that style of tensioner..... no idea why you would if you have horizontal drops but there you go
