Keep thinking that, IE Security is generally useless.

But saying that ie has changed since the release of IE9 I understand they've made improvements on the standards adoption area and download management, however it is still completely unchangebale beyond your back-end Windows theme. I'd recommend you stay away from IE in general.
Do a quick google search, and take a butchers.
And you will find alot of IE people, prefer 8. Due to stability and so on. They Obviously havnt tried www.google.com/chrome.
On the facebook issue, have you tried a different browser or computer?
