What Kind Of Trials Bike Should I Get?
chris4stars replied to cbskiddies's topic in Beginners Trials Chat
Topic: What Kind Of Trials Bike Should I Get? Answer: Onza Ice glad i could help -
im not sure what second hand t-pros go for, but id go for it if i was you....as you said, you could sell it for say 60-70, meaning its only 30-40 for the use of a bike just to get an idea which is nothing as for how it rides, even if it is just average to ride comparatively, it would still make sence to go with this in my opinion...if you are taken by the whole genre, sell, then look to invest in a much better bike suited to yourself, rather than just upgrade

not only is that statement not specific in what you mean by 'use', it just doesnt make sence... did you actually read anything i wrote?! or what anyone else did for that matter...try reading the posts again

Does Anyone Out There Ride By Themself? :(
chris4stars replied to ChrisMeadows's topic in Beginners Trials Chat
six of one, half a dozen of the other in terms technical skills...yeh i reckon thats true, i do things repeatedly untill i get it..and probs get 3 or 4 times more time on the bike actually riding than i would if i rode with other people! (still yet to happen) probably quite likely to develop a more unique style if doing alot of solo riding?! on the downside, theres no encouragement or drive from others to go bigger...try things you may not otherwise, see new lines, learn new tricks etc...im sure theres a happy medium -
Looking For Some Shin And Knee Pads That Are Flexible
chris4stars replied to Theo's topic in Beginners Trials Chat
if youre wanting extra flexibility, it could be an idea to buy separates?! i personally use the youth veggie shins, i forget they are on - they are that comfortable! they cover every part of my shin that ive ever knocked or caught on the pedal and fit snuggly under any pair of trousers knee pads wise, i only ever use them for dh/trails and thats only for when i come off and hit something...i dont do trials type stuff fast enough to have a knee injury yet! -
slight misunderstanding i think?! the 'index' or 'forefinger' im pretty sure is used by almost everyone for braking, perhaps sometimes in conjunction with the middle finger for some the pain comes from the use of the middle finger, and sometimes the ring finger as these are the predominant two that are used to pull up/support the bars...ie, deal with alot of resistance, strong jerks etc whilst doing anything on the back wheel. i think its the 'over squeezing' of the index finger whilst using the rear brake that inadvertantly causes the other fingers to clamp around the bar more. this results in the whole hand under alot of strain in a very un-natural position, and at a guess..could be quite a factor in what causes the damage in the first place (adrians suggestion would seem to back this up)

hold the boat! just found this site... http://www.climbinginjuries.com/page/fingers whilst getting pretty annoyed at my fingers just now, and strapping them up as if i was climbing etc, i did a search for climbers finger related injuries just incase... seems like some of the symptoms are pretty similar to those ive heard alot of people have, including myself. makes sence considering the clawing nature of your hand during climbs, especially as a finger climbing grip is having to overcome much more force than needed to pull a rear brake (one that works well that is) everyone with this sort of injury, is it only the left (rear brake hand?!)

i made a topic about this half recently...check it out and see if its a similar sort of pain?! http://www.trials-forum.co.uk/forum/index....howtopic=147325 even after resting it for a week, and upgrading to a much better setup (new lever/pads/backings/fresh grind) and noticing a HUGE difference in power...the pain is still throbbing in my middle finger, and to an extent my ring finger. not all the time, but any moves that require me to pull on the bars (forefinger covering the brake) ive had a chat with quite a few doctors on the issue, and the views seem to differ considerably, from tendons/soft tissue problems etc. the pain itself is pretty much a medium/strong ache almost identical to a broken finger yet with a full range of movement. im not to sure if a hairline/stress fracture can occur with over exersion (perhaps coupled with violent jerks) but im getting it xrayed soon...will let you know the verdict

im looking forward to see some brakeless bmx trials riding! pedal hop = pedal kick?
-
im talking more along the lines of longer term...it probably takes a generation or so, where a sport has recieved enough coverage to attract a young lad/lass with huge potential who may not have got into the sport anyway?! though thats as much about oppurtunity as it is about raising public awareness and image...
-
surely its the same as any sport getting bigger? id explain but its all pretty straight forward...but the end result is ultimately a faster progression, with a far greater range of styles and riders / moves to inspire us all....which then progresses the sport etc etc
-
maybe its different elsewhere, but the whole idea of trials from those not quite in the know is 'that sport that guy does who was on rudetube and children in need' yes its not exactly accurate, but from my experience of getting into the scene...its the main preconception! as a result, i know a lot of people who wouldnt have even looked at the the field, now check out a whole load of videos on youtube etc (still with more of a street orientation but its progress). i wouldnt be surprised if the popularity and coverage increases more over the next couple of years than it has done over the last 10 or so

it was never in question whether you knew or not! are you aware of anyone who asks a question they already know the answer to? i was merely pointing out that all your questions had already been answered in the very topic you replied to...ie this topic, and perhaps give you a chance to write a redeeming post, and not some daft reply to me in your bid to become validated, it really isnt doing you any favours end of rant....apologies paco, back on topic now...
-
just about to make exactly the same decision...with the extra height on the trialtechs, does it make things on the front wheel any harder?! endos/hops, any sort of balancing act basically...
-
Probably an idea to use a standard format pretty similar to the pads thread... Item Description: Make/Model/Colour/Size etc Price (inc postage if youre feeling very helpful!) Link May want to include a little note if you feel its suited very well for a certain bike / setup where this may be applicable
-
he has posted twice...once with a video (which you could have checked easily enough), and in this very topic saying he rides a Zoo! Python '09, 6 months old what do you think?! (really doesnt help with your validation bid)
-
handy tip with grinding there thanks;) is there a particular disc you use to get the grind you have in that pic? it looks pretty deep/sharp?!
-
cheers, was just with the flex it has now...i wondered if the different lever and cnc backings would make it any worse will leave it off and just try and get the rear set up as best i can edit* my mistake...after checking, just realised that the blue pads arent actually the rockman blues as i assumed..and are the tartybikes high performance?! should really wait to see if the rockman blues hold any better in comparison...ive had the rim slip forward a couple of times, and quite alot backwards
-
noticed those, they did look good....just fancied a coloured one thats all! i'll look into anodizing around my area and go with that
-
as some of you may have read in other another thread..i did something daft to my left hand after a ride! so ive been looking at my rear brake set up...and with my birthday coming up, fancy sorting my setup! at the moment i have the hs33's with the blue pads that came with tarty's spec3 fourplay (i assumed these were rockman or very similar but im not sure now?)....and i've given the rear rim a very very light grind, just enough to take the paint off and then a little. it is very fine, i was using a grinding disc and was quite hestiant to go any deeper just incase! i'll be getting an sl lever blade, and the cnc backings that come with the rockman blues and was wondering; with that new setup should i also get a booster?...the frame flexes a little at the moment, and im keen to improve its performance in any way i can (weight is no issue!) any recommendations welcome, im keen to find out how other people have their fourplay rear brake set up
-
sounds good, im sold! ive noticed though that to use it with a pro trials bashring, id need to run a 20t chainring? at the moment im riding a fourplay with 18t on the front with 14t on the rear...will the slight increase make a noticeable difference? or should i put a 15t on the rear to make up for it?
-
just been out after changing positions of the brake levers and bars...though i cant be sure, it seems that if id had them in the position they are now...the problem may not have occured? just a guess my left hand was as sore as usual, and the rear wheel wasnt locking up very well (this could be the grind being too fine or something, but its not making the honking noises ive heard it is meant to - another topic altogether) after some days rest, after tonights ride its feeling more like a minor stress fracture in the middle and ring finger from the knuckle to down....hopefully some people reading this will know what feeling im talking about?! the part of my finger that im talking about, squeezing it gently from top to bottom it hurts signifigantly more than it does from either side...wondering if anyone else shares that sensation?
-
nice idea, have my vote
-
going to try tilting the bars a little (V!Z Pro 720's with foam grips) and changing the position of the brake lever...i'll let you know if that helps as it seems to be a common problem! cheers for the info guys
-
haha.....i'll keep that in mind next time im playing about in a burning building, or lifting who knows what, wishing my grip was as as strong as it should be...it could make the difference?!
