  1. (1) no...but to make it as user friendly as possible, and helpful to everyone, it does help alot if there is some sort of order (2) the more pointless topics like this that are started on the first page, the faster genuine/interesting topics are pushed down the listings making it less likely for the topic started to get as good a response, or other forum members to take take part in a possibly interesting chat (3) and im guessing the more important to pre members, posting topics like this and daft responces severly hinders your chance to be a full member and (im guessing) use the site as originally intended
  2. well...its somthing to sit on whilst coasting downhill (and thats if its been raised) its decoration and somthing to squat on when youre getting your breath back...nothing more! if you were to cycle any distance on a trials bike anyway (at least the 24" and im assuming mod...looking at the frames, stocks too) a seat becomes irrelavent anyway as you'd be cycling 'standing up' all the time anyway, pedaling whilst sitting, even with a seat up just isnt going to happen as japslap said too...the gearing does come into the occasion, i used a fourplay to get to work and back (3 miles each way) and the only thing that makes its bearable is a few of the ledges along the way, and the fact that i get to clean/maintain the bike at work *EDIT - ben, spend literally 10 seconds looking over what you write, maybe use a spellchecker! that post is barely literate
  3. dont weigh it on bathroom scales unless you are curious if your bike is about 8/9 kg or 10/11kg...thats all you'll be able to conclude from them! the reading accuracy is at least +/= 5% and sometimes more...especially on digital ive found!? they arent ideal...a 10kg bike could seem to weigh just over 9kg, to almost 11kg depending, which im guessing by the thread...isnt really helpful to anyone, you realy need a decent set specific to weighing smaller weights kitchen cooking scales often go up to 5kg, if you can, some minor dismantling and you can have a MUCH more accurate reading
  4. dont suppose you ever ride in carlisle ?! if youre up one weekend and im down...youre welcome to have a shot
  5. what bike do you currently ride? before i got a trials (well...a fourplay!) bike, i learnt how to back hop and pedal kick on a kona stinky....it is easier to pedal kick a trials bike, but dont expect it to be hugely different in terms of improving your level of skill same goes with big drops...on the stinky, 3 - 4 ft was ok (big for me considering id just started!) and the only really difference now to how i view the drops now, is that im more confident because i have more control on the back wheel and are less likely to skip a gear etc etc...my level of skill isnt hugely different and im definately not doing any bigger things yet until that improves have a look at some of the older trials bikes, before they turned into a whole new genre...guys were on rigid bikes that by todays standards..and closer to the trails type bikes, and they still managed HUGE drops, and alot of the skills you see riders doing today. I remember one article in MBUK with a guy doig all these trial trype tricks on a GT Zaskar !! more an XC bike than anything else! Best bet is to find some local riders, try a 20" or 26" (or 24") and see how it feels, and if its really what you want...riding with anyone on a regualr bike is just a no go area though, i ride to work on my fourplay, and have to set off 15-20 mins earlier than i did when i used my stinky (its about 3 miles away)
  6. how keen are you to do trials specific riding? though obviously trials specific bikes are the ideal choice...it is possible to do a number of the tricks and playing about on a hardtail trails bike (the first that springs to mind is a DMR sidekick) or that sort of style really depends what sort of riding you want to be able to get out of the one bike
  7. Again there are so many topics on this, have you read through them? theres a pretty good wiki on here too...check that out http://www.trashzen.com/index.php is pretty good also must be one of the biggest talked about skills here
  8. well...i have pretty tough hands anyway (most regular gym goers will know what i mean), but at work inparticular we use tons of alcohol gel (same stuff in hospitals etc) and it works a treat for toughening up any bits of skin try it
  9. not sure what youve been wearing, but decent ones you forget about in no time at all... as for being all manly and tough...haha, you tool
  10. yes...it does, there must be countless topics on exactly this subject, wouldnt you agree?
  11. http://www.tartybikes.co.uk/media.php?group=guides&id=2
  12. no idea...add me on facebook or somthing and we can actually get some rides sorted (just add the email on my profile) !
  13. that was more impressive to me that some of the big stuff you see in some videos...youve got balls, frozen balls...but balls. nice one
  14. loving how clean that looks filo...purple and blue looks awesome
  15. looking good..how long have you been riding?! wouldnt mind seeing you slow down a little pre-hop or gap, seems a little rushed...still, good vid
  16. i got mine just done the road at mcdonald cycles im sure youve seen it a few times! (about £20 give or take, not much anyway) the veggie youths that i wear still fit a decent size calf - i have no tape measure handy, but with medium sized hands...i can just get my forefingers to touch (if forming a circle around the largest part of my calf) and theres alot of stretch for larger, or velcro for smaller cant see them under jeans at all, and to be honest pretty soon after riding you forget thery are there...its only really when you come in and your chins are still toasty that you realise! injury wise yeh, my shin is already a mess...even have a couple of bone fragments that i can move around, helmet, shin pads and gloves - every ride
  17. was merely making a point and asking a question in return?! im perfectly calm dont worry - hopefully the wonder of a quick google search or phone call can help yourself and many others!
  18. & twit noone used foul language, so stop making a mountain out of a molehill, grow up and wait until they open again...you dont get your parts any quicker secondly - if it takes you that long to rethink a build just because some rims arent coming into stock - youre a twit
  19. i know this is a trials forum so an ideal place to ask such questions, but even as a relatively new member... im lost as to why some people find it impossible to open up google, type in 'buy mountain bike shin pads' or somthing similar, and go from there?! failing that, try using a phone..and asking your LBS if they have any, or know where you can buy them (unless you really want to know where i got mine?)
  20. tedious?! on this logic do you go out with no shoes because its awful tedious to keep putting them on to go outside? personally, id rather avoid being in a situation of not being able to ride due to my shins being in agony..and take that extra 20 seconds to stick my shin pads on! i use (and would highly recommend) the 661 veggie shins (the youth version as they are a tad smaller and more comfortable for me...they are a snug fit though)
  21. a bit of pretty sound, but overlooked advice there...taking a break and resting/sleeping on it can help alot more than youd initially think. even thinking about, and trying to visualise the movement helps build the 'muscle memory' of a certain movement - somthing you may be doing consiously or subconsciously
  22. haha thats random, never thought about any of you guys recognising it! battered bike vs getting hung vs spokie dokes...pfft i got it easy, what did you do to his in return?
  23. cheers...if the pedal should be higher when i eventually do bigger jumps then im happy with it staying there on curbs and small ledges...the only thing so far that has put me off going higher is having the rear tyle slip away again! as for pedals ups, i think that was somthing for day 4 haha...havnt really started on those, can do them from static (regular back hops then the one push to get up the ledge) but nothing else yet!
