  1. Yeh skate shoes are abit confidence reducing like falling off a big gap and having to put your foot on a really sharp edge isn't very nice at times then when you put the 5.10s on and do this you can't feel it at all. I kind of like the softness of a skateshoe, so you can move your feet around for balance, in a perfect world i'd have 5.10 grip, quality and sole hardness and a skate shoes flexiableness (is that a word i'm not sure) maybe those Barons are that kind of thing!
  2. I find that my Impact Lows so grippy they are an annoyance to take off the pedals thats why i ride in skate shoes, i ride my mtb with the 5.10s cos they feel like spds sometimes. I think 5.10 have a few dj style shoes with less grip so you can actually do feet off the bike moves.
  3. FiveTen Impact low, they are amazingly grippy and last for ages, they are really stiff and a bit clumpy it depends what riding you wanna do really. 5.10
  4. Cheers, yeh i can kick to the edge of drops pretty well like to 2 wheels which feels alot smoother than on the back apart from off bigger stuff of course, it was suprising how easy i found it to do the same things i did when i had brakes, i ride more natural terrain than street as i live on a small Scottish island which is mainly rocky beaches. I don't really mind being on the back wheel i just kind of prefer to go off stuff on 2 wheels really. Yeh i've seen your video so many times it unreal, thanks for that!
  5. They use the mono lever for a few of their brakes the mono trial uses the same as the M4 and a few others it make sense really to use the same levers.
  6. yeh i just wheel drop off stuff, i cannot sidehop with brakes at all but i find it really easy with no brakes, yeh theres not much point trying to pedal kick off stuff it just ruins the flow.
  7. I was riding last night in the dark and made a small edit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KKS8aGdBrDI
  8. Yeh you wouldn't want to ride up anything with them cranks you'd be too scared to hit them. Cheers
  9. yeh its a really good video, good old hope
  10. On my Ashton i have ISCG 05 mounts for some reason, its says somewhere that its for Truvativ Hammerschmidt cranks. I run a 18t freewheel on the front so the mounts are almost the same height to the bashring and i keep hitting them and im worried about it hurting the frame. Does anyone think i could maybe hacksaw the mounts down abit, im never gonna use them so theres no point in them its just wasted metal. I'll take a picture of it if anyone wants. Cheers
  11. I'm not sure if this helps with 05 Hopes, its a pretty good tutorial, also there are other videos on how to roll the diaphragm on you lever. Link
  12. I rode tonight and it was really good, i can do about 3 pedal kicks in a row i haven't tried it on anything big yet but, i just do a rolling one on to benchs and walls which are fun, its amazing how smooth it is.
  13. Maxxis Minions are pretty good, a few people use Continental Kaisers, I think they are both pretty heavy tyres, it depends what your riding really, for natural riding go for a Minion or Kaiser on the rear and a Maxxis Larsen or Continental Vertical for the front. For street riding go for maybe a Maxxis Holy Roller or DMR moto r or moto digger.
  14. Or you can use your brake to pivot on the front wheel on the wall, sometimes its good to do this when you can't 'zap tap' up it to go across the wall so you have to go straight at the wall and lift your wheel on to it and pivot your front wheel 90 degrees to ride along the wall.
  15. Using your front brake on higher things helps but only feather it, yeh Ryan Leech came up with that term.
  16. Yeh ive been practicing on a slope and that helps alot cheers, i love how smooth brakeless riding is theres no mucking about on the back wheel for ages which i didn't do anyway so it made sense for me to try brakeless.
  17. Yeh, its pretty scary on the back wheel when you never know when your gonna flip back just practice needed.
  18. The other day i decided to take the brakes off my Ashton Effect which i thought was a good idea. So i started riding without, im really enjoying (so far) it but theres one thing i can't get my head round brakeless pedal kicks, i can pedal up and off drops but can't really hop much i just wanted to know how to do it. I know im gonna fall off the back alot but thats just gonna have to happen. Heres my Ashton now:
  19. Same for me i get freezing at the start for obvious reasons but as soon as i get warmed up i start sweating, i get too hot in jeans so i wear shorts all year round, i don't wear gloves anyway but even if i did i'd still get too hot, I'm not fat either. Long sleeves don't help me either i just end up rolling up the sleeves and it becomes pointless.
  20. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8T9pGarB3dQ A video of riding yesterday i think, i took my brakes off after this aswell so i'll defo have some videos of me falling off.
  21. I think the Because is just a rebranded Avid FR5 lever and a different barrel adjuster, the sd7 another adjustments so go for that.
  22. Try a chainwhip tool if you have one, it may break though as they aren't really meant to be forced in that way. Or your other option is to get an old flat head screwdriver and hammer it off, remember to hammer it left not right as this will tighten it.
  23. I think you've got confused between the brake, he runs a hope pro 2.
  24. Damn the boat from Arran is at 11.05am and its a hour on the train to Glasgow.
  25. Where abouts will this be on, I've never been on a group ride before and i don't know what they are like.
