  1. Very cool but I can't get past the first part of stage 2. Maybe I'm just crap at it.
  2. I wrote the only review of them on tartys, I think they're a decent brake with plenty of power. A good cheaper alternative to the hope brakes. I've had them for a pretty long time now and their stating to fade a tad but I heard all disk brakes do that. My mates hopes aren't as powerful as when he first got them. When I get a frame with rear disk mounts I'll more than likely be getting another tr for the rear.
  3. Ok impressive sidehops but there wasn't a whole lot else going on. You got skills but need to get a bit more creative. Thats just my opinion but I hope it helps. EDIT: I said but a lot there oops.
  4. Usually a pretty long time for me. Trials bikes are pretty basic so you don't have to worry about gear shifters, derailers and suspension components. That being said I did recently break my BB axle and have gone through a couple of mech hangers. Also I suppose if you include having to grind your rims, which I find very annoying, then at least once a month.
  5. On a similar topic why is the smallest middleburn chainring a 20T one. I wanted 18-15 but have to make do with 20-16. I can cycle that bit faster than my mates though so not too bad.
  6. I've joined old inner tubes together to make flexible pipes for carrying water. Pretty high flow rate through them as well.
  7. Why???????? Just when he was getting good again. Hope he recovers soon and doesn't get depressed. He's an inspiration for all of us. Saying that with the lines he takes it's not too unexpected.
  8. Pretty sure the mt2 is a decent enough brake. Not a huge amount of adjust-ability but works pretty decent, was going to get one meself but ended up forking out the extra cash for an echo tr.
  9. I'd say talent exists. Example in point, I've had my bike for over a year and have tried manualing many times and just can't get it, my mate picks up my bike after never riding it before and never really riding many bikes before and starts getting a manual right away. Now he couldn't hold it for too long but with practice he'd be perfect. Point is it takes talent to be able to just pick something like that up right away.
  10. I've reviewed stuff that I've bought on Tarty. Good detailed reviews as well.
  11. I'm used to riding alone and used to riding in front of a lot of people. I find riding alone is useful as it allows you to learn a move really well without embarrassing yourself in front of your mates. Riding with mates can be good of course as, 1 you can show off what you've learnt and 2 they usually egg you on to try something you wouldn't normally do. If I fail something in front of them I'll usually come back alone and learn it and so next time you can say to your mates I can do that now. Riding in busy locations can be hard at first but then u realise most people don't care what your doing and even if they do stare, so what, it gives a bit more publicity to the sport. Even if one person sees you and says I want to try that, then it's worthwhile.
  12. Cool I have a rex and it's done me well the last year or so, looking at getting a lighter bike now though. I'm in Ireland but all my family live in Basingstoke. I go over to see them a couple of times a year and will be bringing my bike with me. Next visit will either be this Christmas/winter or next summer, maybe easter. So not regular but it would be nice to meet up with someone when I'm over. Show me the good trials spots.
  13. Agree great video and loved the slow mo shots. You get a clear idea of how the move is actually done, helpful for people learning even if Ross doesn't like your technique.
  14. Love the rear brake cable going through the frame. Nice looking bike.
  15. Personally I think anyone should be able to do what they want with their bikes and stuff in general. It's their time and money they are using so it's not going to affect anyone else. The disk protector isn't being forced on anyone so why not just let him get on and do it. If that device saves just one finger than it's time worth spent. I'm glad this thread hasn't been locked as I want to see what your finished product is like. There's plenty of people out there that invent useless stuff and this might not be one of them. Good luck and I hope nobody else hassles you.
  16. If you find yourself getting too many pinch flats probably best to increase the pressure.
  17. Well I have shimano deore's on my DH bike, great brakes I used one as a front disk on the trials bike until I got an echo tr. Not sure what it would be like on the rear though. I guess if you bought one of them really cheap it wouldn't hurt to find out.
  18. As he said above $500 which is about £315
  19. Most people get bored of brakes and want to try brakeless. I tried once, nearly killed myself. I like brakes.
  20. Were you riding brakeless before? Getting brakes will definitely change things up. I've never tried it but I'm sure having disks on back and maggys on the front wouldn't be too bad. Just my opinion though.
  21. I'm in southern Ireland, not much help really. I'm sure there are some riders in N.Ireland though. Good luck for your first week on the bike, it's the hardest week and usually when people give up so just keep at it and soon you'll be flying.
  22. The smaller the frame the easier you'll be able to throw it around but too small and it'll be uncomfortable to ride. As for the brakes I'm sure it doesn't matter too much. Modern v-brakes are pretty powerful, depends what brakes come with the bike really. For a low spec bike I wouldn't expect wonderful things. Anything should get you by until you get a proper trials bike though.
  23. Not really but they're usually 32 holes, could be 28 hole rims though.
  24. Well then you'd need a hardtail anyway, longish handlebars. Fairly short fork as trials bikes don't have suspension. In our club we have a few ladies mountain bikes like a Kona Lisa. I've found the geometry is pretty nice for trials, bunny hops so easily and because of the low top tube it's not restricting movement. Only problem is that it's pink. Something like this, I know it's a womens bike but who's gonna know. Frame shape is a lot like the inspired bikes.
