  1. I've looked at the fire service, but to do the analytical stuff they want a chem degree or similar. And I don't want to do anymore education lol. I do get you though, do something that is a necessity to people as opposed to a luxury. That's the way I'm looking just hoping to get anything at the moment though. I'm trying to network a bit too, but it's tricky when you're on the dole. The Liverpool city job centre is hardly a bustling environment of great minds and business types.
  2. I don't enjoy repeating myself when it's there for you to read. But I guess ignorance is bliss. I don't claim pills work for everyone in every situation, and I haven't said that in any of my posts, I simply defended that they have a place, but doing nothing definitely doesn't help.
  3. Without knowing the full story you're making a misinformed diagnosis, how do you know from what Greetings has said that her only problem is being over ambitious? It seems to me she's very much a people pleaser as well, which suggests there might be something else involved, which might be chemical or might need some sort of counselling. But people are still so afraid of the stigma attached to counselling. In the same vein, I think you could get a great deal from it, talking to someone about your previous relationship as it's clearly a hang up and you still think a great deal of a girl who was being a fanny to you for a long time.
  4. I always wonder how the Tories get back into power. Do people never learn?
  5. Read my post, I said if it's a chemical imbalance then drugs are worthwhile. But if it's caused by exterior factors then things like counselling etc are much more effective.
  6. I wasn't going to say anything on the medication front, but I feel I must now. Depression is a chemical imbalance that a person cannot control, in the olden days this was dealt with by a drug called Lithium, with completely removed emotion from a person (This is where a lot of the "Don't use drugs to help balance it out" comes from) nowadays there are tailored anti-depressants to help combat individual people's problems. I don't see why this is such a bad thing? If she's depressed due to external reasons it's a different matter, but from what you're saying she's a people pleaser, which comes across as someone who an internal problem as opposed to someone who's just lost a relative or who is struggling with problems. Self-medicating problems you have to work around is bad, but when it's something that regardless of how much self-reflection etc you do it won't go away, what else can she do? As someone with 2 mental "disabilities" that you can't do anything about, I do get rather annoyed when people say "Don't take medicine" because if you can, and it's valid for your situation, why wouldn't you?
  7. If he's worked hard to get his Doctorate and whatever, then fair play, that's a lot of work that I know I couldn't be bothered with so he deserves a job far more than I do. Or that's my opinion anyway
  8. We were told repeatedly that employers make very little distinction between a 2.1 and a 1st, which made me definitely try less. I think right now, a 1st would be better, mainly because there are no jobs around, especially in graduate positions. So anything that can set you out from the crowd or make your CV a bit better will help. I do wish I would have put more in, but I know part of me not getting a job is the current economic climate. I just hate the fact I'm hardly getting any interviews.
  9. I thought it was pretty shite, I've never seen an opening ceremony before and I wasn't expecting 2 hours of pain, I ended up going to bed. I thought the storybook bit was kinda cool, but it was hardly all encompassing, and the idea behind the change from rural Britain to industrial was cool, but again, too long. That's just me though.
  10. Sorry for going off topic, but all the girls I've spoke to about it have said they skip the porno bits and just read the story. So I doubt they're getting too wet. Mainly because they're not even interested.
  11. That doesn't surprise me, I did nothing for my last year and a half and no revision for my exams and got a 2.1..... So I can imagine employers have caught on that any old skin sack can get a 2.1 nowadays, especially in Psychology. Also on the people complaining about JSA, the whole benefits system in general is retarded, me and my girlfriend are a couple, and this has meant that instead of getting the minimum amount, they want to give us more, but we just want what we were getting, but they won't give us that.... What? It's ridiculous, I hate it, it's taken us 2 months to sort shit out. Anyways, I'll have a look at recruitment agencies, hopefully someone will find me something, are there any good nationwide ones? Or is it better to look at local ones?
  12. Thanks for all the infos chaps, I do quite a lot of the stuff that's been suggested like tailoring CVs and covering letters, I'm applying for some stuff that's around £10k a year as well so I'm not just looking at stuff that is like £20k+ career type stuff, I just can't seem to get any responses, I've probably just had a bit of a stream of bad luck and whatever. But my problem now is, I've been sent on a lot of courses on how to improve your chances of getting a job etc by the Job Centre, all of them say different things... It's good to know others are in similar situations to me though, hopefully by the time the likes of Dan has finished his degree it'll be better, because if I've still not got a job by then I could very well be finding a job falling very fast from a high place without any safety equipment. So about this bamboo....
  13. The police are cutting around 12,000 jobs at the moment so it's not great, although I am looking for data analyst jobs within the police a lot. And most "beat" jobs now require you to be a special constable for 2 years, then to become a detective you've got to do a year or two on the beat as well, and I couldn't do that in Liverpool... I've never even though about the MP so I'll definitely have a look into that, great idea, although I'm not sure how they're viewed within the army. Ahhh awesome Mr Fox, another great idea, I'll definitely take a look into that. Congratulations on the mod position as well whenever that happened lol.
  14. Or talk about your knowledge of Fifty Shades of Grey, bitches seem to love that. JD hit on something perfect, if her mum seems to be interested in something, ask about it, people love thinking they're interesting, and if you can fake interest or if you know something and can have a conversation, that shit always goes down smooth.
  15. Imagine having a daughter. I wouldn't want anyone to putting anything inside my daughter, so it's the dad you're winning over. Or that's the way I look at it, the mum will be happy if you seem to be nice with her daughter and if her daughter has said you're nice to her etc. But the dad isn't gonna be impressed by that, so he's your challenge. Other than that the Bird and Skoze are on the money.
  16. I was thinking about doing that, considering moving into accountancy as I love working with numbers, either that or some kind of data analysis but that's a little harder to get into and there's no formal training so there's nothing I can work towards. Do you think that I'd be able to walk into an accountancy firm and they'd be up for letting me do a bit of work experience? Just with it being people's money etc. Cheers again Bucky, I think I'd want to go Army or RAF as I dunno how much I'd enjoy being at sea for long periods or anything which I'm sure is part of the deal if you join up. But I guess all sides of it have a deal of being away so it doesn't matter where you go, and I do kind of like the idea of being on a submarine, I guess i'll have to weigh it all up. Should have probably said this in the first post Tom, BSc in Forensic Psychology and Criminal Justice, got a 2.1 as well so it does open up some graduate schemes to me as well.
  17. Cheers mate, I'll have a look online. Any advice as which part of the forces I should go into? Seeing as you have a bit of inside knowledge
  18. I have done a fair bit of volunteering Cal, and I do still volunteer when I'm needed at the school my mum works at, but cheers for the advice. I've never really looked at it Bucky, and I dunno what the score is with it really? Plus I'll quite happily admit I'm a bit of a pussy so I've got no idea how well I'd fair, and I'd realistically like to stay in Liverpool, but I think if my situation is the same in a few months I'll probably be moving towards the idea of it as it's most certainly a great career with great progression prospects.
  19. Okay, so I've just got my degree, and I'm looking for work. There's nothing. And I've been looking since January, and I'm started to get rather depressed about the situation. I'm not just looking for a job though, I want something with progression that I can move up in. Basically I'm looking for some ideas of what else I can do, I search most of the normal sites, Reed, Totaljobs, Indeed, the DirectGov site, I'm also on Linked In and Google daily to see if I can find anything on there. I'm not looking for a field in particular I just want a job. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions it'd be cool, because being on the dole is the grimmest thing ever. I don't know how people do it for long periods of time or why anyone would want to commit benefit fraud, how they can sit around doing f**k all everyday is beyond me. Cheers gents.
  20. So, I thought I'd put this in here, I've always loved Motorbikes, but A. I've never been able to afford one, and B. My dad's brother died on one and I was named after him which has made my family sort of against the idea of me ever getting one. Today I went on one, I started on a semi auto 50cc little scrambler with three gears, it was amazing. Then I got a go on a proper scrambler, 250cc, 5 gears, clutch and all, it was amazing. Proper buzzing my tits off. Was really cool, I know some of you probably are thinking "and" but to the other motorbike enthusiasts, I'm sure you all know that feeling of your first proper ride etc. I wasn't wearing a helmet which was retarded, but it was in a field with just me flying around and I didn't really go beyond 3rd gear and about 35-40ish, I know that doesn't make it any better, but the whole wind in my hair just grinning as I flew around was very very awesome lol.
  21. Sorry for double post, how much required is an OS? As in, can you use an acquired one as well as a proper one, or should a proper one be purchased?
  22. Cheers guys, I'll keep looking around, I've been browsing the net and I think I'm getting a bit of a better idea of what is good etc. My mate is thinking about buying something off eBay regardless of how much I advise against it.
