  1. Thanks for the info doc. I have what according to your post seems to be a grade 1 wrist sprain from dropping off a ledge and landing badly (nothing unusual there)! Seems I just need to wait for it to heal but its good to have an idea what's going on.
  2. Wow the double sproket idea is awesome! Thanks for all the input lots to think about. Based on this I'm going to go for the commencal and do some warranty voiding.

  4. You're right of course. When I get paid next I'll have another go at it but till then this will have to do!
  5. Sorry I wasn't clear... I never had trouble lacking gears on the commencal, in fact I commuted 6 miles a day on it for 5 months and never wished for more gears because the ratio was similar to a bmx. So what I guess I'm looking for is a 24 rigid with a not to extreme geo and a less trialsy gearing... And a seat! Price is important too!
  6. That sounds cool except I really don't like hub changers (or gears of any type) they are just unnecessary hassle IMO.
  7. Yeah I still haven't managed to get it off. I think taking the crank off is the only way but I'm not doing that just to replace the snail cam bolts...
  8. I'm looking for a bike that I can cycle a few miles on but is still suitable for trialsy stuff. I used to have an ecommencal absolute max max (single speed rigid jump bike) that pretty much fitted the bill and I'm thinking of buying another (junkies knicked the last one), but does anyone have any other suggestions?
  9. I've given up. Now when it goes out of line I just drop off something and angle the bike so it pushes it back in place lol
  10. How do I get the back wheel off? I don't seem to have enough slack to get the chain off!
  11. Cheers, I was considering tugs to replace the cams but I wasn't sure if they would fit either. I've decided to replace the snail cam bolts and see if that helps... if not you'll be hearing from me again around Wednesday lol.
  12. Oh my god this is driving me up the wall. I've completely rebuilt the back end twice today and the problem persists. It's not the snails they actually seem to be ok. Help!
  13. I'm no expert but I just spent an hour figuring out the snails on my onza. There should be a little pun or bolt sticking out of the frame for the ridges to click against. Check that they are present and adjusted so there's plenty for the cam to push against. These little bolts seem to be key, because of the shape of the cam, as it turns it puts more and more pressure on the bolts, pushing the hub back away from the frame. As for what way on they go, on my bike the 'opening' (if it was a real snail) faces towards the back of the bike when its rotated so that the opening is below the hub, and towards the front of the bike when its above. Hope that's helpful. As I said I'm a noob but I fairly sure that's how they work. Please correct me if the above is a load of rubbish. Sorry for the double post, posting from my phone!

  15. Maybe some snail cams would fix it then.. they do seem to be pretty battered and the bolts that I assume they are supposed to push against are kinda bent. I'll take the back wheel off and check out the hub too. It's a sealed hub btw. This could very well be the cause as the wheel doesn't rotate symmetrically so the hub could well be at fault. Thanks for the tips!.
  16. So I'm having trouble getting my rear wheel to stay aligned. This morning I loosened the hub, aligned the wheel, checked it wasn't rubbing, and tightened it back up again. Went riding for an hour or so, came back, tyre was rubbing on the frame. About an hour ago I aligned the back wheel again, played with the snail cams, tightened it up HARD, was sure it wouldn't come out of place, went riding, came back..... tyre was rubbing on the frame, worse than before. So I think the problem is a combination of a fairly old, low end bike (Onza T-Pro) and the fact that I'm heavy (about 15 stone). The hub seems to default to the furthest in position in the cut outs when ridden (are they called cut outs?) no matter how hard I tighten the nuts. I can't afford new parts (or food, but that's a different story), so I need some tips on sorting this. My immediate thoughts are to improvise some kind of spacers, or trim the tyre treads around the edge where they are rubbing. The latter doesn't sound practical or likely to work though. The spacers idea would be doubly good because my chain is too slack too. Anyway, any help much appreciated! J.
  17. Great! Thanks for all the input, very useful. I'm now comfortable with sorting out my brakes although I'm not sure I want to use water... my mechanical instincts are shouting no but logic dictates I could just re-fill with royal blood if I want to. Right? The rims are already ground, albeit not very well by the look of it. Pretty rough looking. I imagine I'll buckle a rim fairly quickly though so I can worry about that later. Been out riding today and am getting to grips with moving my weight around on the bike and the bars don't feel as awkward as they did yesterday. The bike came with creepy crawlers so that something else I can worry about later. This is turning out to be pretty fun. J
  18. Hi folks, I decided to get a trials bike this week! Its an onza t pro with magura h33 hydraulic rim brakes. I've been cruising around to get a feel for the bike and its been loads of fun, but the brakes need some tlc... Specifically new hoses, pads and a fluid change. Also the bike feels like its set up badly and hasn't been well maintained. So I have questions! - how much royal blood do I need to completely refill the brakes and hoses? - will any brake pads from tarty bikes fit my calipers or are there different sizes? - what's the best way to clean my hubs/sprokets? - can anyone guide me in setting the right height for the bars? I'm 5'9". - I'm pretty heavy, around 15 stone. What tires and tubes would you suggest that are mega strong? I'm not concerned about weight right now just strength. I'll be riding only on tarmac or concrete, no dirt/rocks? Thanks for the help. I've been lurking a while and this looks like a friendly and helpful forum Cheers J
