I was expecting this answer. Still, the technique probably isn't the best so I would like to have some hints on it.

I went out today to practice bunny hopping as I've been kinda stuck at one height for some weeks (the last months I have been improving a lot though). As I think that I have enough strength to jump higher, I came to the conclusion that it's a technique kinda thing. Could you have a look at the video and tell me what I should focus on? The wall is about 80-90cm high and is the highest I can to to rear right now. I'm aware of the fact that I should just do them to improve but some hints may fasten this improvement. The bunny hop starts at 0:35.

I was just thinking that the other day. I think people would try to improve their results at bunny hopping or whatnot, things that aren't dangerous. Doing really high drops, I dunno. Would Duncan have done this without the camera rolling? Maybe not the best example but he didn't seem too confident on this one.
-
He must have had previous (trials related) experience or it wouldn't be possible to do those rear wheel hops so easily, let alone those sidehops.

Thanks to both of you. I guess I'll have to practice gaps a bit more to be able to get some distance covered. What bothers me though is that I have done plyometrics and strength training (mainly for playing basketball) my entire life but it doesn't seem to help at all. It's a stupid comparison I know but you Ali, weigh only 70kgs. and jump so much higher and further than I do, weighing 90kgs (not being fat apparently). There must be something very wrong with my technique because I don't think that I lack strength.

This really is THE best.

Ride in the mud then. I actually don't really like the red color. The same finish in blue would've been awesome but I guess blue has been used on the Console already so it couldn't be used again.

The good thing is though that after about 200 attempts the wall is a bit lower as I carved into it with my bashguard. I came to the conclusion, that it really is necessary to hit the edge of the wall with the lower part of your tyre, it is scary though and a thin line between hitting it correctly and slipping over it (or hitting it too low = crash).
-
The worst thing about it is that I have done this on a higher wall already some weeks ago but then concentrated on other techniques.

I have another, somehow related question. Since I left pure trials I'haven't been doing any sidehops as I am afraid of hitting my rear rotor. Anyways... After a lot of improvement (Bunny Hops etc.) over the last couple of months on my Inspired, I started to try some gapping and was perplexed as to how hard it is on a street bike. I never felt so weak. Where I could gap the length of my pure trials 26'' and a bit more, I can now barely gap the length of my 24''. Since I have the same strength I had when I left my Rockman in the cellar, I should think that it comes down to the technique only. Is there a different technique on gapping a 24'' street bike in comparison to a 26'' pure trials bike? I see lots of you doing huge gaps on a street rig making it look easy. I dunno what to think or I may not be as strong as I thought I am.

According to Ali it works. Danny has upgraded* as well I think. *It really seems to be an UPgrade.

I hate it when I unlearn something. Wanted to practice up to fronts today and this is the best I could do. It's not even as high as I was able to do a couple of weeks ago.

It's the brake. Magura Gustav M. I'd never put those yellow brakes on my bike. I'd rather put some green rims on it... oh wait... The SLX are good brakes if it weren't for the pad knock and the lack of Trialtech pads for them. Your cable routing looks weird.

Get these then.

To much red for my taste and the red used, doesn't match the color of the frame.
-
Oh well, you just have to use a gear that you can climb hills with and pedal fast enough to keep up with the geared bikes.

He said that a good video takes months. I get what you're saying though. Can you give me the Kenny B video link so I really know what you mean?
-
And it has to be filmed with a potato? If there is the possibility of having high quality images, why not use them?

Single Speed. Not a Fixie.

I wasn't referring to this. I know that Ali has tried lining them up properly but the logos are just off. Conti might have changed that in a newer batch.
-
I thought that Trials had become more popular through Danny, thus more bikes sold. Or maybe people back then were riding their MTBs and that there was no need for a special bike = more riders.
-
Why? Marketing and publicity are better, more trials bikes are sold (I think). There should be more people around than when you started (mind that I started only 3 1/2 years ago).

I agree to a certain extend with Leon. For riders like you James, please don't do vlogs. Your videos are that good, it's worth waiting for them. Ali's vlogs are interesting but I do the same as Leon, skip the talking. For riders that have begun recently, some short vlogging isn't too bad. You can mostly see some progress in those videos, which for me is interesting to see (again for me, as I'm at the beginning as well and can compare myself to those riders). If you've got a rider that is already at the top, it's hard to see any progress, which is in turn is boring. p.d. There's probably not a single Vlog episode that's going to be posted in a "worthy repost" thread. So it's like Leon says:

How come your tyre logos line up and on other bikes they don't?
