  1. I was going by the idea that the volume of water in the overspill would weigh 200kg, exerting a force which would equilibrate with the other side causing an increase in pressure on that side. But then the water level on the left would go up, and it would go down on the right, allowing you to add more water up to the level. If you think about it, this process could go on ad infinitum, which is confusing EDIT: Kinda like Zeno's Paradox
  2. The first one, I make the answer as 1.0096 (1atm + 980 Pa) but it looks very wrong.
  3. I know a guy who actually used to run this setup (front freewheel + hope XC rear). He used to insist it was better but he was wrong of course - it felt terrible.
  4. It just makes things really awkward if everyone else gets in and Fatpants can't. Though maybe he'll just get left outside?
  5. Yeah, it does indeed. I think that was the best banner
  6. There's no evidence to support this but it's a scientific FACT.
  7. As people have pointed out, carrier bags don't contribute too much to landfills, it's something like 0.1% of all the landfill waste. Getting rid of them is a bit symbolic but it's also because pretty much nobody needs to use these bags, so it's needless waste. I pretty much never pick up plastic bags at the supermarket, and I survive just fine. At my local one, they've started asking 'would you like a bag?' which I think is good How many houses does Gordon Brown have? The salary for MPs is actually quite low, I think Brown earns something like £70k. Obviously that's still a lot, but compared to top businessmen, lawyers, doctors etc it's less.
  8. I have GTA IV now, woo. Will definitely have to renew my live membership fairly soon.

    Plymouth Uni!

Pretty cool, but I don't quite why they've used a dude on a trials bike to sell the university. Unless I missed something and trials is now dead cool

    Macbooks

Yeah I've probably used the DVD drive on my other computer once or twice in the past year - but only because my 2Gb USB stick broke. I really think I could get by without a DVD drive, no problems. Even if the Macbook Air is slow compared to the Macbook Pro, it's still way faster than my Powerbook (obviously), and since I only really use this for Office, email and surfing the web, it'd be more than fast enough.
  11. No. Just no. Don't do it.

Yeah, I honestly can't remember the last I used the DVD drive on my laptop, it must have been ages ago, probably a year or more.
  13. I'm pretty sure that back in the day when Martyn Ashton held the record it was a record for 'bunny hop over a bar' and you were allowed to do it any way you wanted. At Bike 97 or whatever, Ashton would sidehop a barrier, and people like Steve Geall would have bunny hopped it. At that point they were quite evenly matched, even though Ashton got the record in the end. But I'm pretty sure Geally did 110cm or something. I think a lot of those 'Biketrials world records' are a just one offs and could be easily beatable now. But no one has bothered.
  14. Damn, I needed some new brake pads, haha. Well done Chris
  15. Yeah, but it just sounds like any American accent? Why is Ryan Leech a penis?
  16. Someone make a petition saying that the cost of petrol in America has to 'balance' in line with here, so their prices go up a bit, and ours go down. I'd sign it.
  17. Yeah, I'm a bit dubious of Mark's opinion. On a video uploaded to trialstube, all other things being equal, you wouldn't see any difference between something that was filmed in HD and something that wasn't. BUT most people buy the cheapest miniDV camera they can find, so the quality of the lens is going to be poor, and you can tell. But that's not a fair comparison with someone like JonnyJones who have got an expensive (HD) camera. What does an entry level HD camera cost? £400 ish? I have no idea what sort of miniDV camera you get for that price, so I can't really comment. But the cost of simply sticking a slightly higher res sensor in the same camera is probably not a lot, so I'd be surprised if you pay much of a premium for an HD cam. Plus everyone's after HD stuff these days so the economies of scale come into action, which will potentially bring down the price of HD stuff to the same level as miniDV. Plus tapes are so 1980s. But like I say:

    Macbooks

I was doing a presentation in front of my year group at university, and I pushed the laptop off the table onto the floor. That was probably the most embarrassing thing that's ever happened to me For the record, it was a sony, and it survived.

    Yer but it's thin, innit?

    Macbooks

Ooops. Fair enough, that makes it slightly better. I really want to want a Macbook air. But I don't, there are just too many compromises.

    Macbooks

The bad? Not a whole lot. Games are now entirely possible - either with boot camp or parallels or crossover, although the Macbook (Air or normal) has a pretty lightweight graphics card. The main problems are if you have to run certain programs for work or whatever. I had to use a statistics package for uni and I could only get the PC version (there is a mac version, but the university won't supply it). Although you can just use Bootcamp now and run XP for that sort of thing. File types? I don't think I've ever come across any, nearly all programs have a mac equivalent. The Macbook air is really pretty expensive like Mark says and missing quite a few things. Projector - Macbooks have a mini-DVI port, but annoyingly they don't come with the adapter. So that's an extra £15. But that will let you hook up a projector via DVI or VGA (different adapter). The Air can't do this. All Mac laptops have bluetooth built in, and have had for a while. To be honest, Macbooks are really nice spec-wise and not bad for the money at all. But I really hate that sharp-edged white plastic, it's horrible. MBPs are nice, but the price hike is huge. As soon as they do a Macbook equivalent in an aluminium case, I reckon I'll get one. Yes, just like you need to pay for Office for Windows?
  22. 1) Find a picture you like (doesn't have to be particularly hi-res) 2) Use this: http://homokaasu.org/rasterbator/ 3) Print it big - around 4 x 6 A4 sheets is good I printed a Lichtenstein picture and stuck it on my wall, looked well good
  23. To be fair to Charlie, I'm not convinced that technique was around when he wrote the post a year ago - I was always under the impression that you couldn't connect an xbox hard drive to a PC because the file systems are completely different. Obviously someone has found a way with a boot disk.
  24. I find it weird how you can't really tell the difference in accent between American people and Canadian unless they say 'ehh' a lot. In England everyone has a different accent. I live in Manchester and I would instantly be able to tell by the sound of their voice if someone was from Liverpool (which is only 30 miles away). America and Canada are freaking huge and there's no basically no difference in the way people speak? Weird. Haha, I might have been thinking of horses, not dogs. :$

    Mechs...

That depends on the frame to some extent, but I don't think you can get the B-tension screw to tighten enough to stop it hitting the frame. Taking the spring out is The One®, there's no way it'll ever hit the frame that way.
