I agree in part with this thread - this forum is run for its users, and it's a place for everyone to come and chat about trials. It's not supposed to be a place where the 5 or 6 mods/admin go on power trips and do what they want. But then I genuinely don't think that's what goes on. If I went on a power trip, there's at least a couple of people who would be wiped off the face of the forum for good, haha. I think the mods (especially me) do a good job, and I don't think anyone wants a forum without rules. Putting effort into your posts just helps everyone else, and helps the forum run smoother. The spelling thing only becomes an issue when 1) people take the piss and 2) when people nit-pick. 99.9% of the time, it's fine. I think the rules are in the best interests of everyone. Obviously I don't speak for Tom / Danny, but I think these discussions are a good thing - if only to reaffirm that we're actually doing OK, as the majority seem to agree. But in all seriousness, if you have any gripes with the way the forum is run, or things you think could be done better, let us know. Tom and Danny are making loads of money from this forum, not to mention all that poontang they're getting as a direct result of the kudos associated with being administrators on the UK's 9th biggest cycling website. They'd never shut it down.

JT!, this isn't Mark being unreasonable and power-hungry. You're just being f**king weird. I would have done the same.

I tidied it up a bit. Looks better now I reckon, and it's got the address in there too (but no photo, sorry!). EDIT: Not sure how that looks with the navigation bar. Will have a look in the morning. EDIT2: This one should play nicely with the nav bar

If it's clear and yella, you've got juice there fella. If it's tangy and brown you're in cider town. JT have you read the thread at all? Bulmers is not the same as Magners.

Wouldn't it be ace to go to a party where you could just touch EVERYONE. It'd be just like me being the only guy in a room full of scantily-clad ladies. Being gay would be pretty cool

Yeah, I don't like the picture at all. But it was in the brief. Not sure what else would go there though. Will have a think. P.S. I like Sam's. Looks classy.

If you mean virtual drives and so on, you can usually do it with disk utility. Failing that, Toast.

No. Well, not one that you don't already have Cmd + shift + 3 takes a normal screenshot Cmd + shift + 4 lets you draw a rectangle Cmd + shift + 4, let go, press space (then click with mouse) lets you take a screenshot of a window Sounds complicated, it really isn't though. They always just get saved on the desktop in png format. You can change it to jpeg by opening grab.app and looking in the preferences OK, maybe it's not that simple. I did it ages ago but I forgot. If you want to change it to jpg, you have to type this in the terminal (and restart): # defaults write com.apple.screencapture type jpg Apparently you can change 'jpg' to pretty much anything. Mind you, there's nothing wrong with png, it seems to work well doesn't suffer from compression artefacts as badly as jpeg.

I think a good banner can make the site look very professional. At the moment, the site does look a bit amateurish. I mean we all know that HSB makes great stuff, but I don't know whether a newcomer to the heatsink site would be that impressed? Anyway, here's my effort. You will notice that I skipped a few things out of the design brief - namely the address. I don't think it needs to be there and it makes it very hard to find space to put other bits (especially with the nav bar cutting into the banner). Likewise with the photo - I think it would be better without. But anyway: Or I can change the bg colour easily enough. How about a zesty green?! It probably needs a different picture. I stole that one from Maher

I dunno, if I'm moving something heavy, I'm going to make damn sure MY feet are out of the way. I might worry about other people afterwards. Still, whoever's fault it is, it's an accident and it sucks to be out for a good portion of the summer

So presumably that means that the Bulmers you buy in the UK is not the same as Irish Bulmers/Magners? So that means that the Magners you buy over here IS different to Bulmers? EDIT: Yup - http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2006/ma...od.foodanddrink

I like the way the URLs for Rowan's pages say AliC

That's probably worth having if you want any sort of flat bar time. I can see that using the flat bar might be useful but I never use the flat bar on my road bike because my hands are miles too far from the brakes.

There's a storage capacity limit for 'normal' SD cards of 2Gb. You can get bigger SDHC (High capacity) cards but they don't work (properly) in all phones. As for whether it'll work for MP3s on the viewty I don't know, you'd have to find someone who has tried it.

Well if it gets to Sunday night and no one has entered, I will. N.B. It says nothing in the rules about the video having to contain any footage of Vincent, trials, bikes or anything. I'm a shoe-in for that bounty

Lol I very much doubt they're going to be announcing that they've found aliens. Probably just some big star or black hole that only means something to you if you're an astrophysicist. Would be cool if it was something interesting though! They've been looking for it for 50 years, which rules out alien life or another planet in our solar system - people have been looking for these for more than 50 years.

Wow, there's some really terrible ideas in this thread. A GT avalanche?! A cheap XC bike is not the one for long distance. Firstly, why not a road bike? Will you actually be doing any of this off-road? If not, then I'd say a road bike was the best thing for the job. If you really don't like the idea of flat bars for a long period there are plenty of flat-bar road bikes to choose from. Don't underestimate the usefulness of having then, high pressure tyres. I reckon it makes you at least 20% faster than mountain bike tyres, probably more. Considering that adds up to around 200 miles on your trip, it's definitely something to think about! That Tricross looks idea to me, but maybe with smaller tyres.

TF is like an addiction for me. I reckon cold turkey is the best remedy. James if you want banning, let me know, haha. I'd be happy to do it because never liked you anyway

The only thing i'd say is about the 'manual' bit. Pulling the front up for a bunny hop is not really THAT much like doing a manual. When I (try to) manual, I shift my weight back and down, sticking my arse just over the rear tyre and my front wheel will be pretty low - around 12" from the floor. Whereas when you're trying to bunny hop, you move your weight pretty much directly upwards until your legs are straight, at which point you start levelling out. Have a look here: http://www.trashzen.com/bunny-hop-with-mtb.php In picture 4, his back wheel is still on the ground but it's clear that he's not just doing a manual - he's too upright. I find that actually making myself jump up is very useful for bigger bunny hops. Once you have the technique and timing down OK, try and make a conscious effort to accelerate your body upwards. As for the front wheel height = clearance height thing, that's true to some extent. But you will never get your front wheel more than 26" from the ground when the back wheel is on the ground (again, see that 4th picture). But people can clearly bunny hop a lot higher than that. It's all about sending your weight upwards - I.e. jumping.
