Site News: Buysell
Nick Manning replied to tomturd's topic in Trials-Forum News, Updates & Suggestions
Looks really good, better than I expected. So easy to find parts. I like how you see a image, a title and a price, nice and clear. I do to have the question of what happens when the time runs out? Are you able to set the time length? Are you able to end/close/cancel the advert once the item is sold? -
Real Coust Pad=Phat Backings (Up Date, Page 2)
Nick Manning replied to gary-mac's topic in Trials Chat
I guess I should write something about my coust pads that I purchased from TrialProd. I have had them on for over a week now, and have ridden in total 5 days. To start with they sounded great, but felt like they needed a bedding in period. Once I had ridden for a short period, the pads seemed to improve a lot, but slipped abit. As I hadn't done a fresh grind, I thought I would to give theses pads a chance. With the new grind (not very harsh) I tried again, pads seemed to need bedding in slightly, but performed so much better. They were biting really well as soon as I fitted them, the hold just seemed a bit iffy. The more I rode, the better pads seemed to get, They still slip very slightly, but only when you try and make it slip. I have been very impressed with these pads. There a few bad points. Due to there being so much material I had to run Tensile offset mounts as the pads wouldn't fit my bike. Once the pads had worn down a bit, I could re install my standard Magura 4 bolt clamps. The next bad point is pad wear, they seem to have worn down quite quickly. I am a little concerned that I may need to replace them rather soon. Overall I am very impressed with the pads. My set up is: Magura HS33 2005, water bled Zoo Piranha frame 99mm brake width Koxx Try-all rim 46mm rim Trialtech 4 bolt booster Tensile 4 bolt offset brake clamps (due to lots of pad material) Magura 4 bolt brake clamps (used after the pads had warned down). Hope this helps some people out with an idea about theses pads. Obviously brake performance depends on the brake, frame and wheel set up. I am considering Heatsink Yellows as everyone is raving about them, see how they compare. -
I loved how you mixed TGS and tech moves with free flowing street moves, was a nice combination of them all. You look like you've taken to the hex really well. Hope your enjoying and I look forward to more videos of you on it. Keep it up

How To Ride Bike Trials: A Website How To Guide
Nick Manning replied to Nick Manning's topic in Beginners Trials Chat
Ofcourse they do, but if you have know one to learn with, how are you going to learn? I thought I would share this site with everyone, as there are a lot of people that do not know about it, and there is a lot of new riders asking how to do certain things. This site answers there questions, and should help them get on there way to improving and learning more. -
How To Ride Bike Trials: A Website How To Guide
Nick Manning replied to Nick Manning's topic in Beginners Trials Chat
I agree. This site has been around for years, but not many people seem to know about it. -
Unfortunately Matthew, it seems that the majority of the active forum members are newbies. In the sense that they never went through the changes that we did that have happened to bike trials advancements with frames and parts. I was riding trials for 4 years on 16" and 14" xc frames with FSA Power Pro cranks before I got my first trials specific geo frame (Echo Control). Like you say, for us, it was the love and passion we had to be doing something unique and fun. Know one cared about how you rode or what you rode, it was all about going out with your mates for the day or evening and just having fun.
-
Are you for real? Trials riding starting off with comps, but it has advanced into being a variety of styles. Competition Natural, Competition Street, Natural, Street TGS, Street varied, and then just anyway you want to ride. To define a trials rider would be to say: Someone who rides bike that is fitted with a small front cog, has a bashring and rides over obstacles. Do you fancy doing some demos in all types of weather repeating the same tricks over and over for 20/30 minutes anything up to 8 times or so a day and then try claiming that we demo riders do not 100% effort in. Demo's are about entertaining a crowd, so there is no need to go really big and push ourselves. The crowd will be just as impressed with a rider getting on to a 3 foot platform as they would 4 foot, so why do the 4 foot? All your doing is making it harder work for yourself and also restricting what you can do in wet weather. Seriously think you should have thought about starting this thread before submitting it. Think this thread alone should earn you a 24 hour ban or something. Utterly pointless and pathetic.

No, the sizing is in inches. imagine how wide a 3.5" tyre would be compared to a 2.5" tyre would, you should measure the rear of your frame at the most narrow point of the frame that the tyre could sit. Measure from the inside of the chainstay to the inside of the left stay.
-
IF as you say they are the same diameter then yes they will both be 20"
-
Has the rear wheel ever been changed? Is the bike a complete build from new? What bike is it? Are you able to upload a picture of the bike? The diameter purely depends on the rear rim being 19" or 20" as for the widths, it's just down to preference.
-
They sometimes are fatter on the rear, but because the rear rim is 19" the tyre is generally fatter to bring it up to the same size that it would be if the rear rim was a 20". The reason for having a 19" rim is that you can have a lower pressure on the rear without damaging your rim.

How To Ride Bike Trials: A Website How To Guide
Nick Manning posted a topic in Beginners Trials Chat
I have noticed that there are lots of people asking how to do certain tricks. Personally I think the easiest way to teach/explain to someone how to do certain tricks is to physically teach them and help them learn. As there are rider's all over the country and the easiest way to reach riders is through the forum and You Tube, I thought I would start this topic. The idea of this topic is to try and make all rider's aware of a website called Trash Zen. The purpose of the website is to show and explain how to learn to do the basic tricks of a trials rider. Below is a screen shot of the home page, this shows you the variety of tricks that you can learn from the site. Link to Trash Zen Hope this helps out those that have know one to physically show them and teach them tricks. -
DO NOT measure your wheels to find out your tyre size, it will tell you nothing but the wrong size. As you have just said your front wheel has measured out to be 16.5" this is the wheel size, but the wheel is classed with the tyre as well. For a mod bike the wheel sizes are 20" front and either 20" or 19" rear - more commonly a 19" for the rear. For a stock the wheel size is 26" front and rear. tyre sizes are normally around 26x2.2 for the front and 26x2.35-2.5 Mods will be around the same widths.

Help New To Trials And Cant Pedal Kick/ Hop
Nick Manning replied to OscarWood(:'s topic in Beginners Trials Chat
Try this website, it's great at explaining the techniques for common moves and how do them. Link -
the first number determines the diameter, such as 20" 24" and 26" the number after the x means the width. This is pretty much down to you as to how wide you want the tyre. I would suggest going for the same size that you had before, if you had tyres before. For the rear 19" try here Tartybikes

Nice video, I like the way you say its got some half decent riding in it. Pretty much puts everyone else.s riding too shame, and it's still only half decent to you, lol. I know in Bristol I said I don't watch your videos, but I made the exception for this one Would love to know how you up to front on those post boxes.

I really enjoyed, as others have said, it did leave wanting more. Dave has a great style, look forward to some videos like this. Great filming and editing Ben.

Barrow Farm Sunday 17Th April.
Nick Manning replied to Nick Manning's topic in Member Organised Rides
I think you'll find that Easter Sunday is on the 24th April. Also I very much doubt Easter Sunday will prevent people from riding. -
I bought my freewheel about a year ago and have had no problems. It has never skipped on me and has run smoothly. Mine is currently running exceptionally loud, I have no idea why, but it works well and I love it, I don't have a bad word to say about the Echo SL freewheel. However to make this a fair post, I have read a few people having problems with them, thought Adam Read has helped the establish that they have been subject to a lot of water, and all that was needed was a good spray of WD40 or similar to disperse the water and then then a lube up with some finish line wet lube or similar. What Adam says makes perfect sense, and those that have had to do this have said that their freewheel is working and is back to it's spot on performance. My only query with this, is that I went to Tarty Days last year, and my bike went into the pool of water a ridiculous amount of times and I my freewheel has worked fine, at one point i put some wet lube on the chain, but this was purely due to the chain getting a bit rusty a week after a muddy comp and lack of cleaning the bike. So not sure why mine didn't play up, but even so, if it was to play, it's a simple fix. 100% live by the ECHO SL freewheel.

I took some pictures whilst at the Essex Bike Trial Club round at Hook Woods today. I was going round with Joe Maher, but got some pictures of some other riders. A couple pictures below, please click the link to see more pictures - Photo Bucket

I went along to Hook Woods today for the Essex Bike Trial round. I took some pictures and got this clip of Steve riding one of the sections there.

I'm going to be riding Barrow Farm this Sunday (17th April). Hopefully the weather will be nice, should be a good one. Anyone is welcome as usual. Times are 10-6 and £7 for the day.

I'm 25 from Woking. Been riding trials for 11 years. Ride stock, but I rode mod for a year back in 2006. There's plenty of riders here over 23 that still ride loads.

Where are you going to be? You know it's a sin not to show up.

You say it's beause of work, but I know it's because you wanna see me
