They have updated quite alot on the new model of t-pro, but didn't think "maybe we should put a better bottom bracket in?" Instead they update the crank/bash and rim's etc.
Echo and zoo! are pretty indestructible, try and get yourself one of those, or look for the new onza t-rex like you said, you could also think about something made from steel, they are pretty hard to break.
Burning the pad's is good, but not on the disc, use muc off to clean the rotor, then go over again with disc brake cleaner. Don't get these on your pad's ! Then it should be fine.
Get a hack saw in there and cut it up, then it should fall apart and come out, could try waking it with a screwdriver and hammer and kind of twist it like that ?
