  1. ha ha i remember i used to put my dirtjump frame and forks in a walking rucksack. and strap the wheels to the back and ride to chicksands and delamere forest on my scooter
  2. I used to ride a 26" with 8 speed gears just to get to the next town n ride.
  3. Some bike shops just guess when the cassette needs replacing I tend to do the measuring and visual check of the parts before replacing parts when there fine.
  4. A stupid idea I have been playing with is set your cranks ofset by one spline it kindof gives you a feel of a high bb. But don't try pedaling full rotations its feels crap. But just to see how it feels on the back wheel and going up stuff. It gives you a fairly good idea how it may feel
  5. The measurement between two chain rivets is one inch. Once the chain streches that measurment gains millemeters and also widens the gaps in the cassette teeth. When this happens a new half inch pitch chain wont line up on the cassette cogs.and it will skip over the teeth. And if it doesnt skip it will strech sooner and snap sooner
  6. cooking really doesnt work on heavily contaminated pads its only good if you have a little on surface. and be carefull as you can burn the glue holding the pad to the metal and cause the brake pad to delaminate and lose the pad material. just plain simple wet n dry on a flat table and rub the pad on it. till the surface is dusty all over. then leave the pad for a min if the dry dusty surface shows blotchy wetter areas then the pads are knackered
  7. thats because your chain would normally snap when it is worn out, and if that was the case then a new chain would skip over the cassette teeth, and the shops dont want you coming back saying you sold me a duff chain, there only advising you what may happen without doing the job propperly.
  8. High bb makes me high I love it. Do get one
  9. Headset XC pre 07 - Exploded View this one is the correct one for you pal
  10. i take of 23mm road tyres by hand
  11. I agree its just plain lazy imo. Tyre levers have no purpose to me. I use them as a lever to push disc brake pistons back and never to remove tyres, just use skilled hands only
  12. It's one of the older hope headsets you have. Starting from the bottom You will have the crown race. Metal part you press onto the fork. It should have an o ring on it. Then the bearing. Then frame cup. The top.first the frame cup. Then bearing, then the compression ring with the slit in it. And sitting ontop the top cap with seal o ring.
  13. It's because there aren't many people on here so mods can't just go round telling everyone to calm down otherwise it would get pretty lonely on here. Just take it easy there only messin
  14. The labour on fixing a puncture + parts costs as much as a tube. Which would you prefer.

  16. Years ago I bought a set of ameoba carbon bars for my mod and snapped them in one hour. Cheap and nasty
  17. Yep level 1 is aimed at a total novice who can't fix anything at all
  18. good work, seals replaced is always good. best thing you can do for an old brake everyone should be doing this
  19. if you know how to fix a puncture do level 2 and ignore level 1 cytech.
  20. I have had not one bad experince with any brake system. I find keeping the gt85 and wd40 for oiling hinges and bolts. Buy some proper brake cleaner and silicon oil. I have had enough of hearing about idiots using paint thinners on brakes and wonder why there brake seals fail
  21. it was this camera http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/samsung-st66-compact-digital-camera-black-12300455-pdt.html i really need to get to grips with the settings on it. some more playing with it should sort it out
