  1. To add absolutely nothing useful to the argument I point you in the direction of Those Fundies Say the Darndest Things where records of fundamental christian chatrooms are kept. Bear in mind that most Christians aren't like this. Andy
  2. It's something about things I think were called compatibility equations - if the rod is fixed at both ends then you know the strain will be the same in both of them. Therefore if you know the load applied you can work out the extension by working out some sort of combined force extension relationship for the two of them. Once you know that the strain you can work out the stress in each part of the rod (i assume you're not doing Poisson's ratio stuff at the moment?). Andy
  3. If you're buying a computer for your mum i'd go with getting a ready built - it might be much cheaper to build one yourself or buy off ebay, but there's much better peace of mind buying from a big company, plus if it goes wrong you can just tell them to fix it. I say this after having to give remote computer support to parents after building them a computer while I was at uni. If you're mum's not computer savvy it's much easier for them to have one where you can pretty much guarantee that if something has gone wrong it's either your mum's fault and is fixable, or is the manufacturers fault and they'll fix it for you. Andy
  4. I remember my sister bought a copy a few years and I don't think it was that much as an academic copy - I think you should be able to get it for around 50-100 quid if you need it.
  5. Cheers guys - got woken up by it and wondered what the hell was going on so looked on google for anything about it then thought "I know - I'll check Trials-Forum". Glad to know it's not just in my head.
  6. I got a similar problem when i used on board sound - it's worth spending a bit of cash and getting a separate soundcard from someone from creative. They don't cost a whole lot ebay link Seriously - it should sort it even under heavy load. Andy
  7. Red white and yellow are composite cables: the yellow takes the video signal and the red and white deal with the two channels of stereo sound (can't remember which is which). Component is different and uses three cables purely to carry the video signal splitting it up something along the lines of the amount of red, the amount of blue, and the brightness of the picture, which can be recombined to give a proper picture. Component video is capable of transmitting a high def signal. I think it may be quite similar to the rgb used in scart, but scart has extra pins which can also do composite video, and sound if i remember right. Andy.
  8. I don't know how you can say that - I really like them both and think in a lot of ways the humour is quite similar
  9. I bought one of these Blackspire chain devices second hand off a mate and it was superb. There just isn't any way for the chain to come out at all. Bit pricey brand new though Andy
  10. Mine shuts off the screen immediately if you remove the technical clothes peg device
  11. I can't stand the way he gets into these contrived emergency situations which are dangerous to him but just fine and dandy to the film crew. Ray Mears ***.
