Si If I undertand that, you can't pass your test before 17 ?, as here in canada, you can start driving at 16 with your mom or dad or a supervisor for 8 months or 1 year (depends if you take lessons) so for me it was 8 months, had 12 lessons of 1 hour, and some practice with mom and dad here and there, but not that much, never had problem on the road, passed my test firs time too, and i had my license a month before turning 17 so I've been driving for 4 or 5 months now. I'm in the same case as Bigman, i drove tractors on the road when i was younger with no license

not too sure if I undertand what's exactly your problem ? but if it's because you don't have the X and the other menu, just double click anywhere as long as it's on the grey part of the box you opened up, everything should come back to normal, works for me
