  1. Well I'm going to give it a try on my bike as soon as I have the time to build up a disc wheel. It'd be pretty gay if it was a weak brake, after all it is designed for trials...

  3. Echo disc brakes won't be available separately for quite a while. Ali the pistons are 14mm and around 25mm. That gives a mechanical advantage of 6.3:1. Nice locking pin arrangement:

    I think that unless Speedrace sort out the prices of their frames, it'll be long before they find an importer.
  5. They aren't any more difficult to bleed than any other brake. You need to set the brake at such an angle so that the air flows in the same direction as the brake fluid when you're filling it up (the same applies to every brake). If you're bleeding it from the brake lever, the hose connecting the master cylinder to the slave should be at the highest point of the lever. Same applies to slaves, angle them so that they're pointing downwards at a 20deg angle. edit: Found a pic of the way I set SL brakes for bleeding: This is slightly incorrect, the slaves should be pointing down. But the brake lever is at the right angle.

  7. Full build of one of Deng's super cheap bikes. Haven't had the time to bed the front brake in, besides I shouldn't because this isn't really mine. Annoyingly wasn't sent a single Echo rotor so had to make do with an Accent for the mean time. Going to test this brake on my bike soon with a 200mm Hope rotor. Initial feel of the brake is pretty good, very solid. It's also weird to set up. It needs to be set up like a mechanical brake but you've got to remember that both pads move. Not easy. The lever is in fact a TR rim brake lever.

  9. I was a hater of Deng's Collinders & Hydralics division most of my trials life but I've got to admit that these brakes are pretty damn good now (the ones with a rounded off orange TPA). They seem to be getting better and better with every delivery we get, it looks like the pistons, seals and fluid are being fine tuned.
  10. I'll make things more complicated for you. Ran 18:17 on 158mm cranks for 4 years. Absolutely loved it. Very responsive, short run up distnances etc. It lacked the speed though.

  12. Yeah I'm not saying that the alloy is wrong but perhaps the quality isn't the best. For example - 221Ti cranks (6061) which for me at least have outlasted any 7075 cranks I used in terms of spline strength. After 4 years of use they were still so tight that I couldn't screw them down properly. In my opinion that's a case of a very high quality, properly forged alloy.
  13. Highlight for me this year is a plan to take the M3 and trials bike up into the Alps for a week of driving nirvana and riding anything interesting I find on the way. Can't wait.

  15. I'm guessing that the Ti used in bike parts (well at least the ones used in trials) is not of the best quality. And yet again I'm so happy to be a smooth rider who doesn't go big. No such problems, just SL forks which snap occasionally

  18. Made me think a few days ago. If you look at how techonology has progressed in the last 50 years, you'll find that various stages of developement gave birth to massive corporations. Each developing from scratch a vital area of information technology without which the world wouldn't be the same. I see it this way - it all started with computer hardware for business and personal use (IBM and then Apple), followed by computer software (Microsoft) and after the internet boom, by internet content management (Google) and social networking (Facebook). What's the next big thing? Seeing how most of these companies started, there's probably a bunch of students developing some kind of technology in their basement as we speak, which will make them multi millionaires in a few years time and change the way we view technology.
  19. Quite, never heard of that website, thanks. I like how they compare the brakes on graphs, gives one a good idea of the performance.
  20. Seen it happen before. These are lightweight products, people who buy them and expect durability should get something else. The same applies to Echo pedals with Ti axles. It's pretty much the same as getting a Koxx, riding the hell out of it and then complaining it's cracked.
