  1. The ideology you are conveying is quite interesting but I can't help thinking that there are some big loopholes in it. Let's talk about cheap labour vs. education. You're suggesting we should get rid of poverty - the nasty truth of the matter is that we need it (don't want to sound harsh). We need people who are willing to do the "crappy" jobs like taking out the trash or cleaning the streets. If we're all well educated, who's going to do that? Someone who's finished uni? Sure you can convince anyone to do that by offering him a lot of money but that money is not going to come from nowhere. How do you want to get rid of poverty? Where is the money going to come from? Who is going to do the crappy jobs if everybody will demand a high pay due to their good education? Where are the well educated going to work if there's only a limited amount of jobs which require higher education? Oh, one more statistic about China - apparently there are not enough resources on Earth to bring their standard of living up to the standard of living of Americans or Europeans.
  2. I'm with you on this one, doesn't look interesting at all. It just seems that nowadays you can make a movie about anything, even a brandless car tyre which is on a killing spree.
  3. Surely you can see the corelation between manufacturing costs and the final price of the product? What's the point of making a mass hand made product in Europe when frankly speaking someone in a 3rd world country making a shoe can produce the same result for a fraction of the cost? You seem to be forgetting that workers getting pennies for their job are not forced to work, they do it out of their own free will. Maximising profit = more spent on R&D. 3Dfx is a case in point here - very long design and production cycles, slightly bad management and as a result the company went bust despite having products which were well ahead of their time. They always released the best product they could, but a few months later when they were hard at work designing the next chip to be released in a year or two, Nvidia would come along with something slightly better and much cheaper than what 3Dfx was currently selling. What you're saying is we should all design AI's and robots which will subsequently serve our needs so that humans don't have to do anything. I just can't see that happening. It's ambition to improve our/others' life that drives us to be who we are. Don't you think that with such an attitude to just enjoy ourselves and have machines do everything else for us, humans will become obsolete? Look at the drug addict stereotype, it's a similar story - all he wants is to get his fix, he's of no benefit to the society whatsoever. I would never give away my job for a life of pleasure and having everything for free because it's having to pay for pleasures that drives me to perform better.
  4. Personally I don't see anything wrong with sourcing cheap labour so long as it meets the regulations in that country. As a result, I don't see anything wrong with much of the clothing we wear being made in China or India for close to nothing - these companies are giving uneducated people jobs which they otherwise would not have thus stimulating the economy. This is also something which we won't be able to benefit from much longer since the standard of living in those countries is growing rapidly and so is the pay. I agree with cheap and disposable products, it seems that few things are made to last nowadays. But with day to day products, companies must take into account that by creating a disposable product they are hurting their image and in the long run, loosing customers. It's just a matter of filtering out the cheap OEM crap from the proper stuff backed up by a strong brand and research. Yeah, that's pretty annoying. Surely working together will never produce a better outcome than competing against each other? It's just like with riding, if someone does a good line you'll want to do something better or at least try to repeat it. Competition drives companies into designing better and better products in order to keep sales up. And because research is becoming easier and quicker as a result of CAD and other tools, product life cycles become shorter and shorter. This in term makes them more disposable and we're back to square one. It sounds to me that you're leaning towards communism which isn't a bad thing because in theory it's a brilliant idea. It's just that it will never work because people always want more.
  5. Still got it around somewhere, managed to get a Z4M and that was that, stopped playing. Until something has changed you really need to play A LOT to get a decent car. The other option is to pay. Either way, it was quite entertaining. Going to download overnight and maybe join in tomorrow. edit: seems my account is still active, it's Inur.
  6. Canadians seem to have got the hang of it:
  7. The entire economy is based on growth - if there is no growth (if things slow down like you say), we'll all be f**ked. In a sense, all the cars that are standing on the streets doing nothing have allowed many people to get a job in the automotive industry, earn money and feed their families. I really can't see slowing down to be an option. Recessions result in the economy slowing down, less money is spent, less is invested and as a result less is earned - can't say that's a good thing seeing as what's been going on in the world since 2008. The whole oil crisis is a bit scary, we've still got at least 40 years of driving ahead of us and already fuel is incredibly expensive comparing to what it was 10 or 15 years ago.
  8. No, when you have a motorbike, you're one of those 5 people with a bag and bike that someone needs to get into their car and drive around the country for a few weeks
  9. And Shitiplace or something like that? Loved the video, agree with everything that Pete.M said.
  10. I'm going to bet my boots that the average age in chit-chat is higher than in other parts of the forum. oh, and:
  11. I know this is going to sound strange, but as someone who annually pays a total of 400 quid to insure a 740i and an M3, I would consider walking as the best solution if somebody quoted me 3 grand for a single car. Or at least public transport. You've been without a car for 17 years now, surely it's worth waiting another year and saving 3000 quid?
  12. Forgot one more thing, I once stumbled upon something called porn on the internet.
  13. Wow, that put a smile on my face. So much flow and precision, it's unreal.
  14. Are they any good for trials? Doesn't Stan use one on his bike?
  15. War - Low Rider Enjoyed the film, would be even better if you got hold of a steadicam
  16. Everything seems fine to me, no sign of that website in any of the links.
  17. There's nothing odd aboult liking Lego, you get 40+ year old engineers "playing" around with this and creating pretty extraordinary machines. Every now and then I get the Lego craze (Technic only) and play around, then leave it for a few months/years. Can't really think of any secrets. Many years ago a peadophile tried to have his way with me but I beat him up a bit and he ran away When I was small I was terrified of forklifts. I remember my mum taking me to B&Q (still lived in the UK then) and I peed my pants on a few occasions when a forklift got too close to our trolley.
  18. Yeah, mine too. Stunning performance from the very first moment. It improved slightly over time.
  19. Looks like it might be quite fun. Cosy garden, looking forward to seeing what it's like when you finish the job. Keep us posted.

    Shoes

Ribos. On Echo platform pedals I've been let down by the grip of these shoes a few times already, on one occasion they cost me my beloved helmet which is now held together by pieces of string and silicone glue. Previously I used Nike Cortez shoes, one pair lasted me 6!! years.
  21. I looked into this a few years ago and ended up using a Marzocchi Z2 or Z3 from 1996 with 63mm travel. It worked really well with the 2004 short Pure frame. Also looked into the RS sidehop but that seemed very expensive.
  22. An incorrect grind can result in a silent and weak brake. If you have no experience with grinding rims and haven't done it before, perhaps you've done it wrong. If you have had succesful grinds in the past, this is probably not the case but it could be an idea to re-grind the rim. I wouldn't blame the pads just yet.

I think this was a terrorist attack but I feel there are many holes in the story.
