i find 2 thinks causearm pump, stiff brakes, and nerves. when i'm nervous i grip my bars + brake tighter so the tention is pwning my nerves. a stiff brake (magura with dual booster for instance) doesnt help but cables have a biting point where anymore pull doesnt affect the brake afaik. but it helps reduce pump...

BB7 caliper, SD7 lever, shimano cable. if you run a good cable line, and take the time to set the brake up it'll feel awesome i've riden dual bb7s for over a year, new cables every 6 months for safety's sake. can't fault them i'd avoid a hope personally, unless you buy new. or get very lucky in the 2nd hand market...

on the front it wont take much different, esp with cable (the cleaner the cable line the more win your brake...)
