stocks don't need a plate, they usually have way better clearance than a mod, so it's surplus to requirement and with emphasis on uci riding style everyones ditching their plate in favour of a bash ring cause it is lighter, plates are for the newbs and comp guys, i wouldn't be suprised if plates got phased out entirely in a few more years . any thoughts on that?

didn't realise you'd already bought it the zoo is beaten up (it's from 2005) but i'd put my money on the zoo serving you much better than the mission would, have fun regardless though

if you want a bike you can build up over time easily with nice parts you want to look elsewhere. i could bore you with gory details but in short. if you want to upgrade the wheel, frame or forks, your going to need to outright replace all 3 at the same time cause no other trials parts are the same size (i think, i know the rear wheel/frame is. and the forks on some missions are 1.5" instead of the "normal 1.1/8" forks). if you spend a bit more on you initial buy it will pay off massively in the long run this would be fantastic, it's probably going to sell for £350 £400 but you would be able to ride it without any doubts or fear of it not being good enough, full hydraulic brakes, front freewheel, isis and sweet geometry...
-
how far are you wanting to take push trials? do you want some beautiful bike or are you just wanting something to piss about on? cause the mission will be a f**ker to upgrade

Could I Put Hydraulic Rim Brakes On This Bike?
ogre replied to Nick In Action's topic in Beginners Trials Chat
why? the spec looks prety good, i've used vee brakes for 2 years, and they're awesome... -
don't be a lazy f**ker...
-
i'm very pro grind, i hear good things about heatsink yellows on a smooth rim, but seriously go for a grind! and TNNs. definatley look at getting a decent set of cables for the bike they improve the performance so much! after that consider a decent rear wheel this wheel with this freewheel would be awesome, plus you could swap to front freewheel later on with minimal difficulty...
-
the meta is fairly short like you, so you should get on just fine riding it, have a play with handlebar angle, your weight is usually quite far forward on a trials bike. when you get on the back wheel it starts to make sense why you're in a wierd rolling position though. where abouts in yorkshire are you based?
-
you should grind your rear rim (there are tutorials on youtube) look at getting some quality vee pads, tnn's are awesome! phat pads aren't that amazing for the money. you could try bedding in the front brake; find a big ass hill, roll down said hill with the front brake on, you want it on the whole way down but don't have it on to tight so that the bike can roll at a reasonable speed, the brake will get really hot, pour water over the whole thing with emphasis on getting it in the brake where the pads are, ride around on the flat, pull the brake and you should notice black crap all over the disc, pour water on the rotor to remove, repeat until braking improves... upgrades you want to consider: these brake levers they're awesome and cheap. keeping cable brakes, everyone associates trials with hydraulic brakes, they're good but cable brakes are better, they're cheaper, spares are easy to get (a bust magura will end a ride unless your near a very decent bike shop and have some serious cash on you. cable brakes are very cheap...) a better rear wheel that offers better engagements. the hub in the mad is prety poor, it's ok but it'll hold you back after you've worked out pedal hops and similar moves a high engagement point freewheel/freehub is worth buying. the cranks on your bike are death proof, and i think they're isis, which is awesome too cause thats a prety important upgrade thats already there for you..

i found my zoot to be very light, i ride a prety hefty tgs barge most of the time, the zoot is a brilliant starter bike, just pick up some decent pads for the rear you'll be dandy for ages.
-
nahh cause they sell the trials hub as a single speed hub to mtb'ers and the jump bike scene, they love their disk brakes so they'd be loosing out massively (at a guess?)
-
ben swales can tell you i'm totally lost for the name haha, it was ridiculously windy that day...
-
getting through that many bikes over a few years you should know for yourself what geometry and style of bike best compliments your riding, unless your asking people who've seen you ride/know your style a forum full of strangers can't really advise the bike, my mate has that frame, he loves it, i'd rather contract herpes than ride it for more than half an hour. they're super short...
-
cheap rotors here... and cheap adapters here... why do you want bigger rotors? why 203mm? if you bent a 160, theres more chance of you hitting a 203mm rotor... they're heavier to. go for 180, most trials riders get the performance they need out of 180/185. 203 is excesive unless your riding DH and your having issues with over heating... for the front you'll want a PM-PM F180 (or F200...) for the year you'll want an IS-PM F180 (or 200)

you say you can backhop, so thats a decent start, have you found your balance point on the bike? when your on the back wheel and feel relatively stable let go of the brake, and press lightly on your good foot (which ever one you naturally have at the front) so you do a little wheelie. if the front end drops to quickly, lean back more/pull back on the bars harder as you kick/pedal harder (you'll have to mix and max these variables to suite) if the bike goes to vertical you'll want to feather/lock up the back brake to adjust it forward. ultimatley no amount of explanation will top a few solid afternoons of practice somewhere with a soft landing. find some local riders to give you a few pointers too...
-
the zoot is excellent value! even at £500 although they do crop up on ebay for £300 occasionally, unless your very lucky £200 isn't going to get you very far with a new bike. you could be lucky though. if your keen to learn it is worth investing in a decent starter back so you aren't held back. good geometry, decent brakes (assuming you don't want to ride brakeless, buy thats hard even with a few years experience under your belt...) and a good engagement freewheel/freehub
-
ace riding, you should get a tripod and take some time with where the camera should be so that your head isn't cut off! look forward to a new video though.
