When I was riding downhill I was first using DMR V8's with skate shoes, I then got some 5 10 riding shoes and the differance was massive much better grip. I then upgraded my pedals to burgtec penthouse flats (supposedly the best flat pedal ever but too big and heavy for trials) and the differance wasn't so big. I then tried skate shoes on the new pedals to compare and while being better than the dmr's the differance was no where near as great as the shoes gave. So instead of debating between skate shoes, as over the years I've learnt they are all very simlar, if you really want the grippiest shoe/pedal combination I'd get some decent riding shoes designed for flat pedals!
