r2wtrials
I have come back to cycle trials after 4 years away (maybe more, getting old you know) and was wondering when all the new style frames came in... and why. What brought me to this thought was that i have been watching some older videos on youtube etc and noticed that the riders did almost the same stuff but on the frames that still looked like a cycle... i am not talking about 22 inch cross country frames but things like my Giant frame, Brisa, the first Koxx frames, megamo and monty stuff etc.In the years i have been away doing the motorcycle trials i really took no notice of the bike trials stuff and suddenly people are talking about length and bb height etc....and the bikes have no seat tube at all now.. is it all really needed. Has it made riding easier or opened up different moves. Or is it just a fashion that the companies have created to sell stuff.I am not saying it is all wrong, just trying to understand where it all came from and why... p.s. Humour me, i am old Edited October 28, 2007 by r2wtrials
T.McMillan
geometry has made it easier for trials i would say, but where its made it easier, people can go bigger, tapping gapping sidehops and hooks, also frames are stronger with welded extras and built in boosters. it has changed so so much over the past 3-4 years, but i like the changes and so does alot of other riders thats why alot of people are riding the newer type of frames
r2wtrials
I agree... the new frames do look nice. Bit like my new Beta Rev3 looks nothing like a road bike.Wasn't a dig... just watched a vid that had a guy doing just about everything i see on the new bikes but it was about 4 years old and he had a mini seat on the bike!!! Do the new frames make it easier to balance and control on the back wheel?
Fishy
Yeah, because of the tweeked geometry makes it easier and more stable on the back wheel. Although a lot of it is due to personal preference.
Tomm
Wasn't a dig... just watched a vid that had a guy doing just about everything i see on the new bikes but it was about 4 years old and he had a mini seat on the bike!!!I suspect what you saw was someone doing 40" sidehops and 7ft gaps, whereas now people are doing 50"+ sidehops and 9ft gaps. It all looks pretty similar but it's technically much more advanced these days.
