Onza Kieron
I was shocked when looking on a site to find this about cycling.Cycling on Pavement......£500Careless cycling.......£1000Dangerous Cycling.......£2500I just thought about how the government is meant to be promoting cycling then having STUPID laws like these, laws are meant to be there to protect us but I feel these are going WAY over the top.Linky to siteDiscuss.. JonMack
Yeah it's maximum fines. So it could be anywhere between like £30 and that. Ridiculous though.
Heatsink
Where I live there's a lovely wide pavement set back from the road that makes up a popular route for families to cycle to school with their children. Using the narrow road would be dangerous in this location and the pavement is the sensible choice. In theory a police man/woman could book the whole lot of them and fine them £500 each! In reality cycling on the pavement will always be one of the lowest priorities, and enforced with common sense. You surely shouldn't get in trouble unless you try really hard or you cycle in a zone which has been designated as a nuisance cyclist area and marked with according signs. TomR
Don't see whats so stupid to be honest, a cyclist can still cause an accident which could result in a death.
Bearded Midget
in braintree now, if you get caught riding on the pavement and your older than 16 you get a fine straight away for 30pounds, give you a gay pink slip, and even go to court if your 15 they just talk to your parents and give you a gay slip. glad im 15 Edited October 30, 2007 by braintreetrials
James Quigley
Dangerous cycling £2,500?Trials is dangerous, so would we get fined everytime we go ridding, I thought the sport was expensive enough already.

anzo
These are not as they look; officers cannot issue £2500 on the spot fines for 'dangerous cycling'. These are based on court fines (which can still exceed those stated) and for your cycling to land you in court, it must have been pretty deserving. Why on earth is it 'way over the top' or 'stupid'? Cyclist have killed people in the past, directly or by making a car swerve into someone else; cyclists aren't always the innocent party. anzo
They cant do anything apart from phone the policeThey can; they are allowed to request your details and ask you to wait with them for 30 minutes until an officer arrives; if you walk off you're guilty of an offence and they are allowed to use reasonable measures to detain you; they're just not issued with anything to assist with detaining (eg. handcuffs)...which is pretty silly really.Though most PCSO's I've seen wouldn't have much trouble detaining most people.
