Pit Bikes

you can pick up 50cc ones too if your not 17 yet. although i'd strongly advise you to get a decent 125, something japanese.

Road legal pit's go for around the £500 mark new, I'm pretty sure you could pick up a decent japanese 125 2nd hand around this price.

but if you need to throw the bike in the boot of a car or aren't using it much just the occasional blast on a sunday then a pit bike would be fine.

Shame there like 900 or somthing though :( heard that the 2nd or 3rd gear brakes on 'em though is this true?

My bad... didnt bother googling it and just found out its the 50cc version not the 125cc sorry. :)

Still like 900 though lol

yer shame the'd still keep up if they were running. :P

pit bikes can be fun on the road not ones with 12-14's and dirt tyres though supermoto style ones with 10" wheels road tyres and would be great fun on twisty country lanes.

thump's are over rated imo not worth the cash. you can pick up a really quick car for a grand or a decent older bike.

Yer, the reason i was asking is so i could legally ride to wherever i want to mess about on it.

I've got alot of time to think about it thought so i might change my mind. <_<

Cheers for all the advice everyone :)

bit of a waste of time just get an offroad one and push it to a field to use it

NO! He wants it for the novelty of having a pit bike to ride on the road n stuff, legally, ffs, see that. I wanted one and didn't get round to it/have enough money, not everyone wants a full size bike!

no offence but why? thats basically the most stupid thing possible. They are with the odd exception, chinese peices of crap. I had an offroad one for about a year. Yeah it was good fun but only because you've got all the bumps and jumps to hit. It needed an oil change pretty much every time i took it out, a rebuild about every 35-50 hours. Those stupid cheap crap cable clutches are just terrible. it's really the complete opposite of my idea of a decent road bike.

if you do buy one for the novelty then atleast buy a decent japanese one. my mates chinese road legal one isn't great and he paid £700 it's been knocked over atleast 10 times when it's parked becasue people don't see it in a space then just pull in and knock it over.

i dont see why everyones saying pit bikes are slow, a guy owns a road legal one near me and it certainly isnt 'slow'. Imo id go for it, looks like a lot of fun.

From what my friend just said (who is road legalising one atm) it has to have all lights eg brake etc and the indicators have to be as wide as your ass, but aparently varies so ill try and get a definate answer. ill try and find out any other info.

I've got a road registered pit bike with 10" road tyres fitted. It's a lifan Xpro2000 or something like that. Just fitted a new 130cc motor in it & its certainly not slow. I've overtaken a friend on a Yam DT125 on numerous occasions & its been clocked doing nearly 70mph.

All i can say is they're feckin ace on the road. So much fun. I use mine every day & then i get the big supermoto out on the weekends for some real serious riding. Perfect combination.
