Riding Gear

Hey Brienzer.

To be honest i think helmets are about as personal as gear comes and that really just has to be a decision you make, i cannot recommend any makes but your local bike shop should point you in the right direction. I would just make sure it is well ventilated and covers the back of your head, this is rather important.

In terms of shoes i have always ridden in skate style shoes and i think most people do (but i am ready to be corrected), i currently have emericas and they are super comfy, but lack on the grip side... However i do know quite a few people have sugested nike's 6.0 shoe.

I hope that helps, if not sorry you will have to wait for someone else. Lol.

Brienzer , my recommendation is to get a helmet and like the guy said in the previous post something that covers the back of your head. Do not buy a second hand helmet as the structure could be cracked inside resulting in little or no protection when you fall off.

For footwear I would recommend some trials shoes from TartyBikes or some sort of skate shoe. They provide the best grip on caged and pinned pedals.

I would not recommend wearing gloves while trials riding as they make the grips seem smaller and harder to grip, although this is just my personal preference. If you were to get gloves make sure they are thin material and not padded.

You also may want to invest in some shin guard as they stop most typical injuries. Football shin pads work well for me.

Hope this clears some things up for you.

Hi Andrew.

Thankyou too for your tips.As you can read i have got kitted out with some gear. I have tried some real thin gloves from 661 too and these seem to do the job.

Thanks again.

Jason (Brienzer) :)

Hey, i've looked around and i'd say that the shoes id go for are probably go for a Ribo SV-1, but there's a selection on TartyBikes.com (http://www.tartybikes.co.uk/category.php?id=37)

and for helmets i would probably say look on halfords because alot of people i've been talking to have gone there bt its your selection so try yur local bike shop or something along thoose lines.

hope i' been of help but sorry if not, Josh

I have ridden trials 6 years and this is what I have found out. Get pisspot style dirt helmet. It saved my life once. Wearing MTB style helmet which have less sideprotection would have get my head smashed open(nasty). Wear gloves if you are serious about riding hot, sweaty, big trials. Your hands WILL become sweaty and that makes them lose a lot of grip. Get the thinnest, most stretchy fullfingers you can get. DH cloves with extreme protection are unnecessary. If you want to get style points, wear jeans if its windy or cold but get STRETCH JEANS! They are avalable for men and I swear by them. Good protection if you hate shinpads and they look cool. Not TOO sweaty either. Or wear shorts. I dont like shorts personally for looks. If its hot, ride topless and get nice tan. If its cold, wear thermo layer undershirt and/or something thicker but it must be well breathing and quick drying. For feet. Get trials shoes. Ribo, Monty and old tryall are nice. Tryall SOle B-s are too bulcky in my opinion. I rode skate shoes for 3 years but then I got very thin casual shoes that have real leather top and very very thin black gum sole. They are very very flexible if you feel them by hand and they wrap around pedal for ultra good feel and grip. My riding got 50% better with really thin soles. I hate skate shoes for anything but chilling around. If you wear strong glasses, get lenses for riding. Thats about it!

Lol I guess they guy above pretty much summed it all up. LOL. Do you want to be like my style guru person. One thing you did not think of is what if he had no arms then he can't wear gloves can he, no so HA
