Tensioner Bodge

Having been a complete idiot and sold my 74kings AND my mech hanger, I realised about an hour ago that there was no way I could run the Gusset Bachelor I had planned on running tomorrow.

So I had a quick look around for a spare mech hanger, and whilst I was searching, found this:

Its one of those wierd multi spanners that came free on the front of MBUK a few years ago. As I looked at it something just clicked and I thought, "why not..."

Turns out the dimensions and hole spacings, when combined with an old jockey wheel and some washers, could actually be made into a pretty damn good tensioner.

Basically: The 20m bolt for the pro2 hub goes through the big hole at one end, and then the jockey wheel I fixed onto one of the smaller holes, using a long narrow bolt and the quick release adaptor from a Gusset Bachelor. The spanner/tensioner then is clamped between the frame an hub, a la 74kings:

Using it in the "push up" style, I could actually then use the other hole to ziptie (soon to be replaced with a jubilee clip) the spanner to the frame:

Thus giving the tensioner two anchorage points, which I guess must be good because, well, it sounds like it should be... :P

The only real issue I can see with it is that the odd shape of the spanner might foul the hub where its clamped between the frame and hub, but it should be alright.

So yeah, cheap, simple, looks tough, and should work pretty well. And all within about half an hour.

:) Happy Rich.
