Posting Bikes

Right, I have decided to sell my bike due to it not being used enough and for money.

But the question is: how do I go about sending something this large?

Also,

How do I get hold of a box large enough to send it?

How do I find out how much it will cost to send?

Which courier would be best, preferably cheapest?

How do I get something this big weighed so a price on the delivery can be put it place?

All the answers to these questions would be great!

Cheers in advance.

find a local bike shop and ask kindly for a bike box...normally its 1 less thing for them to cut up and recycle so they should be more than happy to give you 1...

take apart bars/pedals front wheel (maybe rear dependent on size of bike box) and give it plenty of wrapping to stop it from getting damaged...

i used parcel force and the bike box i had was just small enough for their size limit, and it costed just under £20 for a complete stock

best if you just package everything together then just get the guys at the courier to measure and weigh it for you..then they price it for you straight away.

hope i've helped.

steve

[edit]: its £20 sending from UK to UK

Nice one! Thanks for the advice. Just one more question: where can I get hold of big rolls of bubble wrap?

Another thing is where, other than a courier, can I get the package weighed up? Because Parcel Force need to know the exact weight so they can determine a price.

I go through work as they send out internet orders in the form of bikes.

Just pop into Autoparts and ask for a bike box Courtney, we always have some laying about.

Then just tape some cardboard around parts of the frame and fork to stop it getting scratched during transit, take the front wheel out and attach it to the frame with cable ties, take out the handles bars and again attach the the frame, turn the stem inwards.

Shorten the box is necessary to make for a snug fit.

And make sure you cover the ends of your axles to prevent them ripping a hole in the box.

Just remember that the person handling the parcel doesn't necessarily care whats inside, they do get thrown around a bit.

When you put in the dimensions, it says it's too big for them to deliver (well, the box I used was).

Mine was slightly, so I lied and they just turned up and took it no questions asked. Unless they've made their sizings a lot smaller you can get away with a bike box easily.
