That's kind of why it's funny that the Mercedes engine was the cheapest of the customer engines. Shit luck for Lotus and Caterham to have to pay more money for a significantly worse engine that seemed to enjoy torching the rest of the car at any given opportunity.

Quite like the double points idea but I think it should be used in a higher number of races, so if you have a mechanical / end up somewhere near Maldonado you still have a few chances to beast the points.

Surely if that's the reasoning it'd be better to be able to drop a result instead?

It kind of seems like most of these 'problems' would be solved by just changing the points weighting throughout the season? Not in a "double it" way, but just changing the worth of a 1st compared to 2nd and so on. That would then alter whether being a winner often was the aim rather than consistency throughout a season though, as it seems at the moment consistency is the favoured attribute under the current system.

Totally unrelated, but this is quite interesting: http://willthef1journo.wordpress.com/2014/11/18/the-contenders-nico-rosberg/

The way he interacts with broadcast crews is an incredible illustration of this. In Monza, in speaking with me on American television he spoke in confident and unashamed tones despite his apparent dressing down by the team over Spa. With the Germans he was the same… almost bullish. And then to the British TV and radio crews, his shoulders slumped forward, his head bowed down, his tone was full of contrition and regret. What he was saying was no different to what he had told the German or international crews, but the way it was said was at total odds with how he had been just 10 seconds before.
Just as in Bahrain at that GP2 finale 10 years ago, I stood in awe. So savvy, so intelligent to his audience… but perhaps, in this instance, a reflection of him trying to be just that little bit too smart.

So it turns out 3 teams were investigated, but the reason Red Bull were penalised was because they'd embedded a leaf spring in the front wing but covered it with a rubber coating and painted it to match the rest of the wing. Dodgy bastards!

Whether it's concealing a multiple-year affair only to leave his wife 6 months after the birth of their son or presenting an accurate representation of the "freeze" for engine specs, it's pretty clear that whatever Horner says the opposite is probably true.

Going back to Tom's point about Button - not every driver needs to be great, realistically. The whole time he partnered Alonso, Massa was always playing second fiddle but acted as "tail gunner" for the team and scored valuable points for the Constructors Championship. Button proved his worth for that this weekend by getting 5th which helped McLaren's constructors score much more than Magnussen did. Honda are going to want to finish as high as possible so having Alonso as their marquee driver and Button providing a solid back-up drive would be pretty valuable. He wouldn't set the world on fire but he's still better than a lot of other drivers out there.

If you'd been having an affair with her for f**king ages though (multiple years) you'd at least have the decency to breeze out of your marriage before you got your wife pregnant, rather than having a kid then dropping out the "brb lol".

Also, Horner has described what other people are describing as a leaf spring as a "thin piece of metal that allowed it to move", but said it "wasn't a leaf spring".
