Maybe something to highlight to your mum and dad Sam, is that all these riders aren't just putting their names down here to come and have a laugh and have a really good ride, it REALLY is because we all still care and really all do still, four years later (and I imagine for a considerably more years to come) feel very sad about what happened to David.

If its simply a case of it being too much time and effort to work out, I would be enormously surprised if you didn't get a huge amount of people offering support, donations and their own labour to keep the event going.

I can certainly see your Dad's point of view on that one: I in the past have in fact been pretty upset when a couple of lads I knew were talking about coming up for the ride, and after about ten minutes I realised that not only had they never met DJ, but that they were purely wanting to come up this far because they knew it'd be some cool riding and that they'd probably get themselves in a Jonny Jones video. THAT is something I really don't like, but you only have to look at someone like Jon Chubb, who not only never met DJ, but even no longer rides trials, yet still organises the Portsmouth ride every year, and every year there is a minute of silence, and that is purely because of the kind of mark DJ left on the trials scene, that people who never even met him are so touched by his story and want that to live on.

I can honestly say I didn't know DJ that well: I met him maybe 8 or 9 times in total at the first few Hampshire comps I went to and we talked on MSN a fair bit; I never met Emor his family until he passed away, and I didn't know a great deal about his personal life, but I still am very sad about what happened. I actually just thought about it the other day and it really stopped me in my tracks. He was young, caring, helpful, an extraordinary rider, devoted to his girlfriend/finace, and a truly fun person to be around. I am pretty sure that everyone on this list is willing to come and ride not just to have some fun in the sun, but to really get together from all over the country and be united as atheletes and as friends. There are no other rides in the calender when so many people from so far and wide come together for one day, and we owe that feeling of unity to DJ for making us realise how fragile our lives can be, and value of the friends we made along the way.

David Jones would have changed the face of the British trials scene regardless of his passing, but the most positive feeling I have ever been able to feel about this tragedy, is that we all still remember, and that we all still care.

Haha.

I only met DJ about 3-4 times, but even in that short time he had a large impact on my riding. I was just starting out, not only did he sort the headset out on my bike but he also gave me masses of advice and things regarding riding.

I went to the DJ ride last year without a bike, just becuase I feel that I should come, as a show of respect and it gives me a day to remember what an amazing guy he was.

Havent had any hope with another venue. I thought about the scool but they wont let us as their insurance doesnt cover anything like this.
