Trials-Forum Dead? :O

That's fair enough, the problem is you know what's in SM chat, I don't. I can only assume and argue my position based on what I think is in there. If the majority of the important topics are indeed posted outside of SM chat for the members to mull over then it's all good. :)

I don't take that personally at all mainly because it's true. Menial things to some are more important to others. I use this forum just as much as anyone else so what goes on in here I find pretty important, and ontop of that this form is the sole of trials in the UK, I think a lot of people forget that from time to time and what goes on in here has a big influence on what happens in the trials world. I do have a lot of time on my hands and I do have a mind that'll possibly over think things (I know I've been told that over the last 18 months plenty of times away from the forum) but I do have some issues with the SM system and like Ben and other people in here it's better to discuss these things rather than to just not bother.

If SMship isn't based on a general level of respect than what is it based on? I thought that's all it was based on.

It's true that things like moderator buttons should be kept in a private forum. But once you create a private forum it's like there being a box in the middle of your living room floor saying 'do not open'. It'll drive people crazy even if there's nothing in there.

My main problem with SM stemmed from a couple of topics. Some guy posted up a topic about petrol and needed some info for a school project. BONGO came along and slated him for posting up a topic that could have easily been searched for on google (even though later I did search for the topics and found it hard to find anything). A few weeks later BONGO posted up a topic asking for the name of an eminem song that used muppets in the video. I said to him at the time he'd just been totally hypercritical and he told me that the situations were different. The then post up a long and detailed post about how putting 'eminem muppets' or 'eminem puppets' would both bring the song name up in the first result. And how the other guys topic was actually something he was unable to find. Now, I know this is the actions of just one SM, but what bothered me more is a few hours after I posted that, the topic had been deleted, not closed, but deleted. That means BONGO had gone to a mod and asked it to be deleted to save his own skin. And stuff like just isn't fair and shows the negative sides to the SM system.

EDIT: Unless SMs can delete their own topic in which case it's a little different.

Another point, the whole porn and discount thing, we all know it's BS, but again even though it's made up it's made up to pretend that the SM have more benefits than others.

SM's can delete their own posts and whilst i haven't tried it, deleting a starting post might result in the topic being deleted. It may also have been that someone saw a thread full of arguing and binned it. Deletion happens a lot all over the forum regardless of who starts it or who is involved and it depends on whoever does it at the time as to whether it's just a lock or a full delete. You may well be right, but i would have thought it more likely someone saw it and put a stop to it.

The box in the living room would have to be invisible for that analogy and i'm gonna return with "out of sight, out of mind" :P

There are a few small benefits but the main principle as far as i understand it is that an SM is determined based on contributory nature towards the forum, positive and helpful manner or both. If someone has been noted as being of such good character why shouldn't they have a couple of extra privileges? While some SM's might act disagreeably sometimes i think it's unfair to tar the whole group with the same brush, i certainly don't do the same with full members and new members and would like to think other people are open minded enough to see that stereotyping is an unneeded falsity.

I don't think that any Senior Member has a 'them and us' attitude with this.

I might be blowing my own horn here, but I've helped out a lot with this forum - I don't ride much these days so my knowledge of parts is a little outdated, but I still endlessly help out people with computer problems. I've even spent hours with people on MSN guiding them through step-by-step with something, and because I'm not right next to them looking at the screen it does take the patience of a saint, where I think most people would think it's not worth the effort and pack in.

Along with this I have sometimes taken the piss out of someone and took it too far, but in most cases if I've offended someone to that point I will often go back and remove it. I do have the ability to remove my post completely, but I the only time I've ever done this is if I've given bad or incorrect advice - where deleting my post was more beneficial to the other person than my own gain.

So yeah, I like to think it was my contribution to the forum that got me nominated, perhaps also with a sense of humour. In return of this privledge I help out whenever I can - I frequently look though NMC and nominate members who I think are geniune, I have also written out a guidence post for the dispute forum to help other members.

I don't agree with SM's being seen as the Nazis of the forum - we're no different from any other member and we still have to follow the rules. However, as a SM I feel like my contribution has been noticed, which is nice.

What's so bad about that? I'm not saying someone elses contributions are less important or frequent than my own, but SMship certainly doesn't come easily. I like to think that SMship is something to be looked up to. If any member were to PM me with a question or help I'd help out with no question and I also think all of the other SMs would do that too.

What you said is all true, but it's not about that. No one's saying SM don't deserve to be SMer's, it's the whole SM system. I guess it's similar to saying "Don't hate the players, hate the game" in that the actual SMer's aren't what's being discussed here, but the system.

Lol, why do people care what SMs get up to? Barely anything that goes on in SM chat filters into the normal forum, so for most purposes it doesn't exist.

Apart from the jokes about SM porn and tarty discounts. The screen shots of SM chat with certain topics blurred out. Quotes containing snapbacks to SM chat. Avatar themes. :ermm:

So?

Members could have avatar themes, but we don't...

Some of the blurred out topics include topics that have been kept for legal reasons but are closed.

There was one such example regarding a website, but I can't remember any more.

I know we could, but the reason we don't and the SM's do is because they're a group with their own forum. The avatar thing is just an example which shows that. When i see a new avatar trend come up I don't curl into the corner of my room and sulk I couldn't be a part of it, the only reason I'm brining it up because it's just a means of re enforcing what the original point was.

That was my stupid idea and it stemmed from me wanting to change my picture but being the indecisive soul i am i asked for help. A few ideas were thrown up and then before we know it everyone's changing them at the same time and to the same theme.

It was never intended as being a "them and us" thing at all. I don't really see the relevance of it to be honest, there's nothing stopping people in full members making a similar topic and theres nothing to stop other members joining the theme (which has happened severa, times).

Thats like the only topic in SM chat though that could be introduced into chit chat without it exposing details of the inner workings of the forum or being irrelevant to the rest of the members. You said yourself:

We've told you the important things are introduced into the main forum for discussion and you're still not happy, completely contradicting what you wrote. I think the bold text is showing the real issue here, and unfortunately jealousy on your end is something I can't fix.

I for one find the SM themes a right giggle, and like trying to spot a new one and whether it has any relevance to anything at all...

This thread is reaching legend status, I think the amount of people talking about SMs as if it has any effect on their life is pretty funny. Watching JT dig himself a big pink hole is an added bonus :giggle:

And some FS threads and other 'sketchy' stuff, plus threads from a few tools which are useful to have around for next time anything kicks off.

The death of the original Late Night Crew killed TF for me. Use to be a lot of banter and homosexuality but I think it's all about political issues and moaning about random shit now.

That's because some people are shit. That thread was pretty awesome in it's heyday, then the pretenders took over (note: I don't mean Chrissie Hynde and co.).

Yeah, figuring out what the theme is is fun.

There was the one where there was george bush, and gordon brown, and osama bin laden. So it could've been world leaders or forces of evil, or something like that.

Although usually it's pretty obvious, such as the fish one.

Unless, rather than thinking of what it is, think of why it's fish...

I think think having Senior members is a good thing. It gives members something to aspire to. I think you'd find people that are in the running for being a senior member would be a lot more considerate about what they are posting.

For me personally I had a pretty bad start to this forum and pissed a lot of people off. I'm sure I still piss people off now to be fair but, I like to think that I've got a chance to become a senior member so I'll try and bite my tongue or give someone good advice about something I know about. If people think there is no hope at all to becoming a senior member then what's stopping them being complete dicks? Something that would stop them being total dicks is if they are genuinely nice people that help out a lot but not everyone is like that.

Anyway I've lost my point a bit here. All I'm trying to say is I think having senior members is a good thing because all the other members have something to aim for.
